I've been riding xc and "trail" for many years, but I've gotten a little more into DH/park riding this year. So far this season I've hit Snowshoe and Copper Harbor. At Copper I'm comfortable on Citrus tech but at my limit on Overflow. Snowshoe...the blue trails I'm comfortable with (other than the occasional letter trail that is probably not rated appropriately...), near my limit on the techy blacks (like Rooty pebbles), and anything with multiple diamonds there is a no from me, fam. My bike is a specialized status 160 custom build. I upgraded tires and brakes specifically for this trip (used to run semi-slick on the rear, now I'm running double magic marys, also used to run 180 rotors now I'm at 203s with saints). I'm lucky to be going with some more experienced friends who usually give me pointers on how to ride the tricky features. But I hear at Windrock the whole trail is the feature! Haha.
I feel like I have commitment problems on steep, janky bits of trail (give me a nearly vertical rock roll that's butter smooth and I have no problem with it, but add some jank to it and I start to fixate on the hazards). I hear Windrock is supposed to be like that the whole way down. All this in mind, any Windrock newby survival tips? I might just nope out of some trails my buddies are riding if it's what I need to do to come back intact, haha.
