The position of Labour Leader /u/akc8 tonight hangs in the balance as the party reaches breaking point over perceived sexism and racism in the party. Sky News understands that a leadership election will be triggered in the coming weeks, with the Leader addressing his party and stating that he will "consider whether [he] will stand again". This comes after the resignation of the party Press Secretary, /u/Giraffism.
Giraffism alleges that the current leader has failed to take the issue of in-party discrimination seriously. A petition was supposedly ignored by the leader, which was signed by prominent party members including Deputy Leader /u/NukeMaus. akc8 denied this in his statement to the party, instead claiming he was investigating to avoid taking "brash action" he would later regret. He appeared optimistic and keen to change the party, stating that there was "clearly some rebuilding to do". Whether or not the Party believes that akc8 is the right person to lead that rebuilding is yet to be seen.
This comes just ahead of the launch of Scottish Labour, and will no doubt worry many in the Party. Time will tell whether or not akc8 will remain in his position, or whether the party will choose a new Leader. It is clear, however, that the the Labour Party is going through a tumultuous time in a very public manner.
