This is frying my brain so please bare with me and any help is gratefully appreciated.
So we have a msi pro z790-p wifi ddr4 motherboard
which we had 2 x 8gb hyper ddr4 ram in slots 2 and 4 (16gb)
Which worked fine until we wanted to render an adobe after effects video and it was telling me to increase my ram.
So I brought 2 x 32gb ddr4 patriot Viper ram sticks and thought this would be loads for what we need.
1st thing I tried was
Slot 2 & 4 (taking out the 8gb cars and installing the 32gb cards in there place) = This would allow anything to happen i.e. it would turn on but not boot up the computer or allow me to enter the bios.
so I put the old cars back in and turned on and everything was fine which puzzled me...
Then I tried the 2 new cards in slots 2 & 4 and again nothing so I then tried the new cards in slots 1 & 3 to make sure it was not faulty ram and it booted up however it would come up telling me they were in the wrong slots and should be in 2 & 4 but it would allow me to ignore and boot up.. In the system settings it told me there was 64gb of ram and everything worked correctly however adobe after effects would still crash when rendering a tutorial I brought from Envato no matter how low I set up the render settings. It would always come back saying needs more memory and crash.
So I thought lets try all the Memory I had.
New 32gb in slots 2 - 4 then old 8gb in Slots 1 & 3 it would not boot up (Weird)
Then I tried...
Old in slots 2 - 4 and New in Slots 1 - 3 and It booted up and everything tells me that there is 80GB of ram however it still will not render this bloody after effects file. I have tried low resolution, I have tried media encoder, It always gets to a point where it seems to stop and then the program crashes.
So I have a few questions.
Why does my 32 gb work in Slots 1 - 3 and but not 2- 4 yet my 8GB works in all slots so I know the slots work and I know the Ram works?
Is there a way to make 1 - 3 (2 x 32gb Viper) slots my primary slots and not 2 - 4 (2 x 8GB hyper) and does it matter?
Would you keep all 4 slots filled or would you just have slots 1 - 3 using the 2 x 32GB Viper ram? (Provided I don't find a solution to the problem of them working in slots 2 - 4)
Why is After Effects still telling me I need more ram when it says 10% of 80GB used while it is rendering then it gets to a heavy data section and it fails every time in loads of resolutions etc. I am rendering to H264 or MP4.
I hope my post makes sense and any help would be great.
Thanks
