I recently bought a used msi gs65 stealth from a family member. He told me that I'd probably have to upgrade the wifi card as it never worked well even when new. After I got it set up and downloaded a few games, I decided to try a match of r6. Once I got in the match, it said I had a connection error and kicked me off. It did this several times as I thought it was r6 bugging out (I've had similar experiences in the past with r6 acting like this). However once I hooked up the ethernet cable it worked fine. It seems odd to me that it downloads games, accesses the internet, etc. perfectly fine but whenever I try to play a game I have to plug in the ethernet cable. I figured it would just give me pretty bad ping if it was just a weak wifi card. My room has the router in it, and I have really good wifi that I've never had an issue with on my old laptop or any other device. So should I upgrade the wifi card, or is it a different issue? And if I should upgrade, what should I upgrade to?
The laptop was new in 2018 and it has the i7 9750, 16gb ram, and a nvidia rtx 2060.
Ps. I know a bit more than the average person does about pcs but I know absolutely nothing about wifi cards.
