How do I know when I should update BIOS/Firmware on gs65?

In the title, I have been seeing a few things about keeping up to date with BIOS and firmware.. I went to MSI website and just downloaded the Firmware file, I havent downloaded the BIOS yet. My question is what does this do when I update them, and how exactly do I go about doing so once I have downloaded the files?
