Sir Fresh3001 attacks the Labour Party on their lack of policy.
“We’re well into the campaign and yet the Labour Party manifesto is nowhere to be seen. Voters will head to the polls without any time to digest the Labour Party’s policies, compare them to the policies of others, and without time for other political parties to criticise those of Labour. Throughout the campaign we have received snippets of what Labour wants to do, and the actions of the previous government gives us some indication also. However, this simply isn’t good enough. With the Green Party’s hard swing to the left, the New Zealand public deserves to know whether Labour will do the same. Will Laichar remain true to his centre-left social democratic principles, or will he fall victim to the coercion of the hard-left Greens and head in the same direction? The New Zealand public does not know.
“I think, however, we can all make some reasonable assumptions. Laichar was a former member of the Green Party. His party has been in constant coalition with the Green Party. On no serious issue of policy have they publicly diverged or criticised one another. Laichar has not commented on the Green Party’s radical oil exploration and employment law proposals which would irreparably damage our nation. There have been more than a few rumours circulating that Labour is little more than a satellite party of the Greens - and the previous government does indicate this. Despite having the same amount of seats as the Greens at a time in the previous Parliament, Laichar did nothing to renegotiate or improve his party’s position in the government. He’s so unwilling to upset the Green agenda that one has to wonder whether these rumours are true.
“I do, however, have a few policies campaigned on by the Labour Party that I am able to bring up. Support for tariffs and protectionism. Free university tuition (a.k.a upper class welfare). Forcing militant union representatives on company boards, just like the Greens. Imposing controls on landlords to tell them when and how they can change their rent. Abolishing charter schools, to the detriment of Māori children and the less fortunate. It’s not looking good Nat Nation. I hope that Labour can change things around and forge their own direction, independent of the Green Party policy-wise - I don’t blame them for being their ally, that’s common sense, but the New Zealand public deserves some policy differentiation from our two left wing parties.”
