The Opportunities Party campaign opening broadcast airs on TV One on the first day of the election campaign
Post Body

The opening broadcast of the TOP campaign airs on TV One. The first shot is of /u/silicon_based_life sitting behind a desk in a cosy office, desk laden with papers and laptop. He grins at the camera, then leans slightly back on his chair.

“Greetings and welcome to the Opportunities Party opening broadcast for the sixth General Election! Last election, this party ran for the first time. Enough of you voted for us to allow us to return three people to the House of Representatives and form a government with the Greens, Labour and United Future. Now, we seek a renewed mandate from the people of New Zealand. The Opportunities Party has put a lot of effort into researching and preparing a specific, unified policy platform, and we stand by it. This past term has given us a chance to implement many of our policies, but our work is far from over.”

/u/silicon_based_life stands up and walks to the doorway of his office, the camera moving in front of him to keep him in frame. He leans nonchalantly against the doorway when he reaches it.

“With your help, this past term has seen The Opportunities Party implement a fairer income tax system, without having to raise tax on the worst-off earners in our society. This tax reform will also see house prices down and more effective investment of capital in New Zealand’s economy, to increase productivity. This is flagship policy of the Opportunities Party, and if elected we will do all we can to see it continue its existence in our legislation. As a result of Opportunities Party efforts in government, New Zealand now treats all forms of income fairly under the tax system. Vote for us to see this continue."

"Despite the victories we have made, there is so much more left we have to achieve. We have to balance the health system in New Zealand, by increasing junk food and alcohol tax revenue and diverting it to the health system which receives the bulk of the burden of their consumption. We have to implement a Universal Basic Income for the first three years of a child's life, which are the most important years of their development as a functioning member of society. We have to finish implementing the nitrate trading scheme for water pollution, which will work with key industries that emit nitrates to make our rivers swimmable for future generations. These are our key policies, but we have so many more policies poised to enrich New Zealand. I urge you to check out our website, or read our manifesto, the final version of which will be available during the campaign."

Suddenly the shot cuts to /u/silicon_based_life standing on a windy hillside. Wellington can be seen splayed out below him in the background. His voice is raised over the gentle wind.

"The Opportunities Party believes that everyone in New Zealand, no matter their ethnic or social background, should be able to succeed. However, the barriers to that success need to be broken down before we can start making any headway. If you vote for us to send us back to the hallowed chambers of Parliament as seen behind me, then we will break down these barriers and create the more fair and equitable society that New Zealanders deserve. When you go to the polls this election, make sure to care, think, and make your vote count. There are opportunities waiting just around the corner."

The camera zooms out and away from silicon and the image fades out to be replaced by an Opportunities Party logo in the blue sky, interspersed with the occasional small cloud.
