imnofox skyped in to the AM Show on Friday morning to chat with Duncan, Mark, and Amanda
Duncan: "It's the election tomorrow, and we're now joined by imnofox, co-leader of the Green Party, and candidate for Aoraki. Good morning to you, imno."
imnofox: "Good morning Duncan."
Duncan: "Okay, so I want to start off by talking about the Aoraki race. Do you think standing against the incumbent is really that important?"
imnofox: "Is it important? Yes! I mean, just yesterday, he had his own what can only be described as a paramilitary marching down the streets of Nelson- this is the kind of politics I'm fighting against. This fervent nationalism needs to be kicked to the curb, and Aoraki deserves much better than the divisive crypto-fascist politics of Winston_Wilhelmus."
Mark: "Don't you think that if voters elected him, he should be able to do what he wants?"
imnofox: "Mark, I believe the people of Aoraki deserve better. When he was elected last election, he was elected on the misguided but moderate banner of Reform, led by the venerable /u/alpine-. A lot's changed since then, and New Zealand First under the leadership of Winston_Wilhelmus is unrecognisable. The extremist and destructive policies of this man and his party are dangerous for New Zealand and will cause Aoraki a great deal or harm. I'm fighting to give the voters of Aoraki a better, pragmatic option."
Duncan: "I want to get back to the march you mentioned. They're called the 'Silver Legion', apparently, and that's also the name of an underground Nazi organisation in the United States during the Second World War. I'm all for free speech, but this is disgusting!"
imnofox: "That's right, we can't let this kind of racist thuggery become the new normal. That's why a vote for myself in Aoraki is so important. United Future is far off from winning, as is the Pacific Union Party. The reality is, in this knife edge race between myself and WW, for once in my life, I am the moderate option."
Amanda: "What will you do for Aoraki?"
imnofox: "Aoraki is a big electorate, and a largely rural electorate, yet my opponent wants to place 10% export tariffs on our primary sector. Our primary industries are important to the region, and they face real challenges such as the impact of climate change. Export tariffs will only make that harsher. We need to start supporting farmers as we combat climate change, because we know the primary industries will be hit the hardest. I've promised millions of dollars of investment to support farmers in the pursuit of sustainable farming. That's a key priority for me in Aoraki."
Duncan: "Why's he got National's endorsement?"
imnofox: "To tell you the through, I really don't know. I guess they just want to support their coalition partner- National's going to need them if they intend to form government. But it's definitely sad to see the once liberal National Party out here endorsing candidates that want to ravage our primary sector, want to bring back the death penalty, and have paramilitary marches through the streets of Nelson! I think it shows how desperate they are, and how willing they are to sacrifice their spine if they have to. I don't think it's working out for them- the association with New Zealand First is like a cancerous virus."
Mark: "My friend in Aoraki is voting for the United Future dude. What's wrong with that?"
imnofox: "Well, we don't have preferential voting in electorates yet- so voting for the United Future definitely has no chance of ousting Winston_Wilhelmus. Greens and United Future have more in common than United Future and New Zealand First anyway, so I'd encourage your friend to reconsider his vote, haha!"
Mark: "Still, you're a greasy green!"
imnofox: "Mark, calling names is not very compelling. Next you'll be calling me a traitor too!"
Duncan: "Haha, well, thanks for making time to talk to us this morning."
imnofox: "My pleasure! Vote two ticks Green!"
