alpine- launches her campaign for re-election in Whanganui at the base of the Paritutu Rock
Post Body

Incumbent electorate MP for Waikato-Rangitikei alpine- launched her campaign for re-election in the new Whanganui electorate earlier today at the base of the Paritutu Rock.

"People of New Plymouth-- can you hear me? Isn't the Rock beautiful! As you will all know, I am alpine-, your local electorate MP.

"In the last term of Parliament, myself and my party have made significant progress in improving this country for the better given we were not a member of the Government. This includes the progress of the Electorate Electoral Referendum Bill, the KiwiFund Bill, and the English an Official Language of New Zealand Bill. We've also prevented the Government from making some terrible mistakes. Whether that be preventing the Government from lowering the minimum wage, helping to throw out National’s Public Housing (Rent to Own) Bill, or criticising the inconsequential National Standards - Reform has protected the Whanganui electorate especially from a reckless Government.

"Although we've seen significant progress, Reform is the first to acknowledge that there is always more to be done. As I begin my electorate campaign today, I want to acknowledge the hard-working employees of the Whanganui electorate. Reform has a vision for a New Zealand made up of well educated, determined, healthy, and innovative people, with an expanding business programme geared around production, sustainability, R D, and regional development. However, this Government has allowed for immigrants to fill jobs instead of qualified and experienced Kiwis. This simply isn't fair, and it isn't right.

Applause interrupted her as she continued...

"Because of this, many Kiwis have been left unemployed and with no job opportunities. They've become reliant on the dole when it shouldn't be something to rely on but something that supports you into new work. Many families in rural regions, where the Government's recklessness has hit hardest, struggle to meet their rent or mortgage payments, pay for electricity, or put dinner on the table for their children. This is a truly disgusting situation, but Reform has a comprehensive strategy to counteract this which you can find in our election platform - including prioritising regional infrastructure and offering grants for research and development.

Cheers escape from the crowd: Go alpine-! Go Reform!

"I am proud to represent the beautiful Taranaki and King Country regions, which set the standard for global tourism destinations. It's suitable that today we're at the base of the Paritutu Rock because its mana strengthens the tourism industry in the region. Reform wants to grow the tourism industry even more for the tourist, the employer, and the employee. Unlike other parties, we get the balance right. It's a positive cycle that we will continue to feed, by providing tax incentives to responsible and credible tourism agents, investigating environmental harm due to tourism (as well as sustainable solutions), and offering fees-free to new recruits in the industry.

"If Reform is in government after the election, we will be in a position to work even harder for the Whanganui electorate, and the nation as a whole. Reform wants stable growth for Kiwi businesses, and the infrastructure and support to make it work. It's the only way that makes sense. So, for transparent employment, for worthwhile employment, and for sensible employment, there can only be one choice on your ballot paper on 14 July 2018: two ticks Reform. Thank you New Plymouth!"

alpine- then raced her supporters to the top of Paritutu Rock.
