"Good afternoon everyone, thank you for coming out. This election the Labour Party has a number of policies that will help students. As during the last election, we're committed to raising the minimum wage to a living wage by 2020. This is a step towards making sure all New Zealanders can afford to live. It will particularly help students, who are often working low wage jobs.
"Unlike what the opposition will tell you. A living wage doesn't necessarily lead to lost jobs. If paying workers properly means that businesses can't operate, then the problem isn't with paying workers properly, it's with their business model. We are confident that new jobs created by this government's policies will outnumber any jobs lost because of an increase in the minimum wage.
"Labour will also increase rights for renters, including limiting rent increases to every six months, extending the notice period to 90 days and banning letting fees. This will help renters on low incomes - who are often students, struggling to get by."
