Incumbent Labour Waikato-Rangitikei MP /u/alpine- spoke today with rural residents in the King Country, reassuring them that she has their interests at heart.
"Good morning, everyone! Up and early does it. As y'all know, I'm alpine-, your local Labour MP for Waikato-Rangitikei.
"I am proud to talk to my rural constituents today, because our party was founded to fight for people like you. You guys and gals are the reason I get up in the morning - probably at the same time you're getting up to milk the cattle!
Laughter endows the crowd.
"The Waikato region is known for its dairy, agriculture, and pasture. Farming is the backbone of this country. For that reason, it's crucial that we get it right.
"Labour in Government has recognised the important balance between increasing your productivity and decreasing your environmental impact. We have nurtured the recent introduction of automation into the industry, knowing that although our country's efficiency has skyrocketed, so has our carbon footprint. People like you in the farming industry understand how small decisions in the short term will have large benefits (or consequences) in the long term. We in government have realised this shift in the industry, and have acted appropriately.
"Unfortunately, only one party has actively shown to be capable of delivering both a stable transition between traditional and modern methods of farming, while at the same time having the ambition to achieve at the highest standard worldwide. Neither ACT or National have the same level of concern or comprehensive policy to approach this issue sufficiently. Don't fall for their games.
"We're also going to invest more into the expansion of broadband into rural areas. We know that the farming sector, and people in general, are incorporating more technology into their workflows and lifestyles. Labour will make this easier, faster, and cheaper for you if we are returned into Government.
"However, as your current Member of Parliament, I have consistently worked to deliver you the best I can in reward for your hard work. I believe I have done so, but in order to continue this hard work, I need your vote. Vote for me, and party vote Labour this Saturday."
Applause welcomed Madam Speaker alpine- down into the crowd, where she then had a long conversation with the residents.
