While visiting Waikato Hospital in Hamilton today, Labour leader Fartoomuchpressure announced Labour's policies regarding new parents.
"Good afternoon. I'm here today to talk about our policies for new parents. In the next term we will extend paid parental leave to a full twelve months and allow both parents to take it at the same time. The World Heath Organisation tells us that the first six months of a baby's life are the most important for bonding with parents. By extending paid parental leave to twelve months, we give both parents the option to take time off for this full period. It also brings us in line with the OECD average of 48 weeks paid parental leave.
"In addition, we're going to increase funding for GP visits, so that kiwis can afford to go the doctor when they need it. As it is, thousands of kiwis choose not go to the doctor because they can't afford it. This means the poorest New Zealanders aren't getting the help they need. By increasing funding for GP visits, we can help break the cycle of poverty."
Fartoomuchpressure stayed at the hospital for another half hour talking to patients before being whisked away to another campaign event.
