E: "Today we have a very special guest. She's the Speaker of Parliament, and the local Labour MP for the Waikato. Hey alpine-, how are you today?
A: "Good thanks Ella, what about you?
E: "Awesome, thanks for coming in today. So alpine-, the election is on 14 April, and the opposition parties are up in the polls. Are you worried you won't win your electorate this time around?
A: "Not in the slightest. If anyone looks at my main competition, former National leader dyljam, and his campaign, you'll see that they don't even know the country they're in!
laughter
E: "How is that?
A: "Well, for starters, his campaign launch was an absolute trainwreck. He blabbered on about National's sensible policies for helping first home buyers, including (and I quote): "[They] will allow first-home buyers access to their KiwiSaver account to assist with their home loans.โ Anyone who has opted into Kiwisaver, over 2.5 million of us, will know that this is already the case, and has been since its inception.
E: "That's quite a blunder for a former National leader to make. Why do you think National doesn't know their own policy?
A: "I'm sure they know it. The policy itself is the issue, because it hasn't been thought out one bit. I'll give you another example. They're planning to introduce (and I quote) "a new rent-to-buy scheme for those residing in state housing to purchase the dwelling theyโre living in." Effectively what they're proposing is the sell-off of state housing. How is that a policy for a stable housing supply?
E: "Blimey. With that in mind, what separates a Labour-led government from, dare I say, a National-led government?
A: "Great question, Ella. To start, National are, at the moment, a few clueless people held together with blue ribbon. Labour, however, have proven strong leadership and control in Government. We have the caucus and the minds in place to keep this country on track for prosperity. The same cannot be said for the National or ACT parties.
E: "Thanks for coming on air today--
A: "It's been my pleasure, Ella--
E: "Is there anything you'd like to end on.
A: "Definitely make sure you two ticks Labour this upcoming Saturday! I doubt there's any other choice really. It'll certainly be interesting to see what else ACT or National will spout during the week.
E: "That was alpine-, local Labour MP and candidate for Waikato-Rangitikei. She's such a pleasure, isn't she?"
