A moderately sized hall, about half full of students, awaits the speaker. On to the stage walks ComradeAnnex and the crowd welcomes him with a chorus of claps and the occasional whoop. ComradeAnnex adjust the microphone and then begins to speak.

"Thank you all very much for coming and thank you for such a warm welcome. As some of you may or may not know, I am ComradeAnnex, a list candidate for the Labour Party, and if I'm lucky enough come election day I'll be one of your MP's."

"I'm here to talk to you about a crisis which is facing New Zealand, the crisis of Wealth Inequality. For the last two decades, New Zealand has had the worlds largest increase in Wealth Inequality. The top 10% of Kiwis now own 60% of our wealth, and the poorest 50% own only 5%. Some would have you believe that this is just the way of the world, that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. But poverty does not exist in isolation, people are poor because our systems direct new wealth to those who already have it."

"According to economists at the OECD and IMF, rising inequality is actually making us weaker and more prone to asset bubbles, such as the one in the Auckland housing market, and other forms of economic instability. Growing poverty is stealing the amazing talents of many young children from us because we never gave them a chance. But I don't have to tell you about the dangers of Wealth Inequality, because 80% of Kiwis say they are already concerned about rising Wealth Inequality, and yet you still never hear the parties in power talking about such issues."

"Now I'm not going to stand here and tell you that I have the magic answer, that we can implement one policy and solve the issue forever. No, it took us decades to get into this mess and it will likely take us decades to get out of it. However, I can promise you that Labour will do everything in our power to address these issues, and over the following days as we announce our policies, each and everyone of them will in some way give the impoverished a leg up or make the privileged few pay their fair share."

"So, come election day, make your two ticks red so we can turn this country in the right direction and build a future for all"

After his speech ComradeAnnex makes his way off the stage, shaking hands with his supporters and discussing with them the issues of the coming campaign.
