It's a chilly day in Kororareka (Russell) as BestInBounds begins his by election campaign. The National faithful and a few interested spectators crowd around BestInBounds as he begins his speech.
Kia Ora Koutou Katoa.
Ko Maungakiekie toku Maunga
Ko Waitemata toku moana
Ko Ngati Whatua toku iwi
No Tamaki Makaurau ahau
Kei Poneke toku kainga inainei
Ko Auckland Grammar toku Kura
Ko Bounds toku Whanau
Ko BestInBounds toku ingoa
No reira, tena koutou, tena koutou, tena koutou katoa.
Good morning everyone and thank you for joining me on this frosty morning - you know me, I like to keep things clear and concise so you all can go about you're day reasonable promptly. I'm not here to bore you with mind numbing figures and facts slanted to my viewpoint I'm a simple man of the people - before I'd start I'd like to pay tribute to the previous MP for Rohe Kate Kawhena - our views didn't align but unlike some she was willing to fight and die on the hill of her beliefs for Maori and that is to be commended. Replacing her diligence and unmatched work ethic will be a challenge for all of us championing the cause of the tangata whenua.
Now I wish I could maintain my kind words for this government - suffice to say - I can't. Despite promising to improve their track record on Maori affairs they still have submitted Zero legislation this cycle - Zero. They claim to want to fix their previous track record but I see nothing to support this. Zero action, zero policy, zero aims, and if we're being blunt - zero cares. This government doesn't have a care in the world because they have become complacent - they rest on their laurels, not that they have any in that regard, and expect you all to eat it up. They have failed you time and time again and it's time you place your faith in somebody who actually cares for Maori and has a plan in place to get it done. They call us the party of business because we don't buy into the destruction of the commerce sector this government so desperately desires. We are the party of the people, led by a man who has a vision for a better New Zealand in gregor. We are a party that doesn't 'forget" to pass Maori legislation, because we know that the Tangata whenua, our people, are woven into the fabric of this great nation. And if the government are too blind to see it they do not deserve the mana of this seat.
Who else does this leave? Mana Hapori? The party of extremists too busy immersed in their own socialist dogma to compromise and ensure that their constituents would at least be able to get a proper say in Parliament? Instead they operate in the cross benches where they are about as useful to the tangata whenua as wings on a turd. And it's shown - what have mana Hapori done other than try recognise the declaration of independence? I'll put my hand up and own that we haven't been able to offer much on the Affairs front, but that's due to a mixture of instability within the party and changing ministers. Moving onwards National will take a united, considered and evidence based common sense approach to Maori affairs as it seems the shadow minister for Maori affairs will get more done than the actual minister for Maori affairs.
I know it's been chilly, and I'm thankful for you all getting out here this morning I know how precious your time is. Please stay tuned into party social media and to my events around the country as we talk about various aspects of our policy and of course fight the good fight for you all. Because you all deserve much better than you are receiving.
Nga Mihi.
