TOP has released an online video, shared by supporters in Northland, where /u/silicon_based_life discusses how /u/TimeWalker102 can benefit Northland, and clarifies TOP policy.
“Hello everyone, good to be on your screen, sharing my thoughts. It was a big and controversial day for us in Hamilton yesterday, but after it all died down and the door-knocking ended, I’ve finally made my way to Tokoroa. Some massive announcements today and I’m really proud of how well it went down. Now, I’ve got to connect with some of our voters in Northland. The other parties have been talking up some controversial policies of ours, as well as questioning the legitimacy of TimeWalker102. TimeWalker102 is doing great work on the ground in Northland right now, but we need to project our policy over there to make a big difference.
“Well, first of all I have to say that our UBI policy announced today would make a huge difference for Northland. In particular the Youth UBI would empower the young people of the region to seek out their own paths and fit better into the working population. All the evidence abut UBIs shows this. And of course, the young families and senior citizens of Northland also stand to benefit. Unconditional, no-questions-asked, perfect for gaining a footing and stability in society. TimeWalker102, if elected to Northland, will focus his efforts, along with the rest of The Opportunities party, on making this happen.
“I also need to address our alcohol policy. We have received criticism on this a lot. It’s strange, really, considering how our other policies have the potential to affect the fabric of New Zealand society in much more fundamental ways. We are not coming for your booze, we are not trying to destroy a great Kiwi tradition. We simply want to address some of the harm alcohol causes society when used destructively. The excise increase will be funnelled 100% into alcohol rehabilitation, so everyone will eventually benefit from a reduced burden on our health system. And the drinking age increase is only to the same level it was less than 20 years ago. A reduced de facto drinking age of 14 has been bad for addiction and affects teenagers’ mental development. Increasing this back will reduce the de facto age, and the punishments won’t be severe so that it remains somewhat liberal.
“All of this, alongside well-costed UBI policies, effective changes to the tax system to slowly reduce house prices over time – and to make the tax system fairer – is what TimeWalker102 stands for in Northland. So I urge you, consider The Opportunities Party today and vote for a fairer tomorrow.”
