Hi all, part of the mod team here. Lately, Reddit has been a little all over the place for us, and several issues have happened across the site with a usual common denominator: the assumption of spam/bots/fakes etc. Weāre posting this across the subs we help moderate, and encourage other local mods to follow suit.
Over the past 12-18 months, Reddit has been inundated with spam accounts. What do we mean by spam? It takes several forms: - Bots are a form of spam, where an ounce of critical thinking makes it super clear theyāre using pics from somewhere online and pretending to be from a local area. Theyāre usually ā18ā or ā19ā, and ālooking for a hot older man to give me a creampie while Iām in CITYā. Things to that effect. Almost always, these accounts arenāt ok. - Promo spam is frustrating, but depending on the subreddit can be entirely fine. These are accounts with the sole purpose of promoting their OF, Fansly, or other SW-affiliated account. Again, depending on the sub, this can be entirely fine, or it may be against the rules. Nuance is needed. - Active spam is the title Iām giving to those that seem between promo accounts and āregularā accounts. This is people who may or may not have SW affiliated accounts, but post with frequency in broad subs. This is a nightmare for a mod team, as unless we have clear proof that theyāre trying to scam (and ACTUALLY scam) people out of money, it may not be against TOS. - For clarity, āRegularā accounts are those used by people either searching for partners, or purely using Reddit in the early 2010s gone wild mindset of just an outlet for exhibitionism. Thereās almost no place on the whole damn site where this is a problem
Ok, so how does this interact with posting here and how YOU can help US make OUR collective Reddit experience better, at least in these local subs. Weāve been targeted and called scammers in spite of being clear we havenāt had an OF associated with this account ever, nor have we ever asked for any monetary compensation from any potential partner for any damn thing. Why? Usually because we werenāt interested in whoever the accuser is. On one occasion, we hadnāt replied to someoneās message on account of not seeing it, and got the spam accusation leveled against us. Which brings us to the first of our list
A person/account not getting back to you does not make them spam or fake. All we have to say as both people in the community and as Reddit mods is, act like an adult, and move on.
If someone is advertising for a partner but when contacted solicit an OF/Fansly/FansOnly sub or straight money, check the subās rules, and act accordingly. Not sure if money for nudes/acts is explicitly against Reddit TOS, but may be. Double check, and for anything beyond pictures/videos refer to local laws. If they are posting in subs that prohibit sellers of all forms, then take screenshots/evidence to the relevant mod team.
If you are scrolling and suspect spam, report it as detailed as can be, and let the moderators deal with it Our personal mod approach is to use the common sense eye to determine if someone is spam or not. A young account all of a sudden posting pics claiming to be young, almost always gorgeous, and almost always incredibly horny (while using canned post titles seen on 90% of the subs) is likely to be spam. Posting in MN subs, and also TN subs, and also OR subs, and also MA subs, is a dead giveaway. In defense of travel oriented folks, we have un-banned an account who was able to prove that they were just someone who travelled a lot. However, usually, this isnāt the case. Someone being from Hudson, WI isnāt a banable offense because they posted in a MN sub and also didnāt want to fuck you. Reddit isnāt YOUR playground, itās for all of us.
Thereās been a lot of drama here with the spam issue lately. Moderators donāt get paid, and we only mod to help out when we get chance. Donāt clog our personal chats where weāre looking for partners telling us someone with a Reddit generated username may be fake. Donāt get mad because someone didnāt want to fuck you. Donāt act out because you thought someone was spam when they arenāt. On pretty much all subs we mod, if you report the post, it will be hidden from the feed until a mod clears it. Do not abuse this. Unless the rule-breaking can be observed by the reported post, check their profile prior to reporting.
Try be mindful of who youāre interacting with, and how youāre interacting with people. This is Reddit, after all.
