Discussion Topic: Chrysalis and the Changeling's Transformation
Post Body

So, I got to thinking m̶a̶y̶b̶e̶ ̶I̶'̶m̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶d̶r̶a̶g̶o̶n̶b̶o̶r̶n̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶I̶ ̶j̶u̶s̶t̶ ̶d̶o̶n̶'̶t̶ ̶k̶n̶o̶w̶ ̶i̶t̶ ̶y̶e̶t̶ about Chrysalis and the Changelings, specifically Chrysalis's name.

The changelings have always seemed a little bug-like, and IMO their transformation only emphasises this aspect. So, given the trasformation mirrors in some way the life cycle of certain insect from larvae (which is what young changelings are called from memory) through a cocoon or chrysalis to a moth/butterfly/other adult insect.

So my question is do you think that Chrysalis's name have special significance - and if so what?

It's possible it's just a coincidence, but I can't help think there is an opportunity here for Chrysalis to undergo a transformation that is symbolic of more than just the reforming of another villain.

So far Chryssy is one of the only still 'undefeated' of antagonists, and she was the focus of last season's finale. She has lost her home, but is still a very powerful character (rivalling the royal princesses) and I expect we'll see more of her.

I don't really know where her character arc will take her, but I find the changelings interesting characters, and I think it would be interesting to explore hers more.

And I can't help but be curious when I think about the name the FiM crew have chosen for her and what the meaning behind it might be. After all a chrysalis is essentially a formative stage - and if that's the case t̶h̶i̶s̶ ̶i̶s̶n̶'̶t̶ ̶e̶v̶e̶n̶ ̶m̶y̶ ̶f̶i̶n̶a̶l̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶m̶ what comes next? Although it might be reaching into the improbably at this point, I remember hearing discussions about who the next 'princess' would be, e.g. Starlight/Sunburst/the other mane 6.

And personally, given her level of power (̶i̶t̶'̶s̶ ̶o̶v̶e̶r̶ ̶9̶0̶0̶0̶)̶ and the potential for her character to undergo a transformation in a way that is fairly consistent with canon I could see it being Chrysalis. She might even need a new or different name (a la Nightmare Moon/Princess Luna).

TL;DR : Could Chrysalis hatch into a Butterfly?

Edit: got the season of Chryssy losing her throne mixed mixed up.
