Finding an outlet for your creativity can be difficult. I know, I've spent a lifetime trying to find ways to monetize my creative abilities. I am a trained artist, and I found out that being a starving artist just isn't as romantic as stories have you believing. I am also a writer, but it took many years of non-paying work before I was able to turn it into a profession.

That is the reality of a creative person in today's environment. This isn't the Renaissance, and there aren't many Medicis anymore willing to sponsor an artist's life and work. Sad, but true.

It is especially frustrating if you've spent years on your craft only to have it go unrecognized. Again, I know. That's why I am intrigued by TransLash Media, an independent news organization that "shares the authentic experiences of trans and gender-nonconforming people through journalism and nonfiction storytelling.shares the authentic experiences of trans and gender-nonconforming people through journalism and nonfiction storytelling."

The founder and CEO of TransLash is Imara Jones, a Peabody and Emmy award-winning Black trans journalist.

Unlike other news organizations, TransLash takes a multi-media approach to their mission. While traditional journalism makes up a portion of their output, they also produce films and graphic novels in an effort to present stories that "centers the lives and stories of TGNC [Transgender Non-Conforming] people."

Their work has garnered TransLash a lot of attention from national news outlets and LGBTQ organizations.

Selfishly, I an most intrigued by their graphic novels output. Without divulging too much about my "real life" career, I have a background in the comic book industry and have been working on a project that may fit with TransLash's stated purpose. I'll be reaching out to them via their Collaboration link and see if they have any interest in a collaboration. I'll keep you all updated.

Some of the most creative people I know are transgender, and some of them are also members of this sub. I highly suggest any trans person seeking an outlet for their talent, to check out TransLash and see if they may be willing to work with you.
