For his next campaign event, Randomman44 got a video camera as he decided to make a video promoting the Labour Party’s railway policy. He swam all the way to Bedford, via the picturesque River Great Ouse, where he went to Bedford railway station, and began recording within the station concourse:
“Hello, I am Randomman44, the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Labour candidate for Parliament. It is 7AM on Monday and I am outside Bedford mainline railway station as the Labour Party has some exciting plans for public transport for this constituency.”
Randomman44 then sneaked under the ticket barriers, and boarded an InterCity service towards St Pancras. There, he began chatting to commuters.
“This lovely man here, named Geoff, tells me that he-”
“This is an InterCity service to London St Pancras International. Calling at Luton, Luton Airport Parkway, and London St Pancras International”
“Geoff said he lives in Bedford but that he is going to go visit Oxford University with his son Jay. By car, Oxford is only a 60 mile drive, but by train, it takes over 2 hours! This is because Geoff and Jay need to take a train down to London, and then get an InterCity train to Oxford from Paddington or Marylebone. I definitely pronounced that correctly. Meanwhile, cars don’t even need to travel to London at all!
The Labour Party has a plan to invest in the rail links of Bedford. A Labour government will back the construction of East-West Rail, which will provide a direct rail link from Oxford via Bletchley to Bedford. Geoff and Jay will no longer need to take an indirect and convoluted route via London, but will instead be able to hop on a direct train service!
It won’t be only Geoff and Jay who will benefit. Vicki here tells me that she is travelling to Cambridge to visit friends. Cambridge is only a 50 minute drive from Bedford, but is an over 2 hour train ride! This is-
“If you see something that doesn’t seem right, text the British Transport Police on 61016. See it, Say it, Sorted.”
“That’s the 2nd time the PA has interrupted me. Anyway, as I was saying, Vicki also needs to travel via London. Luckily for her, East West Rail will also go from Bedford to Cambridge, providing Vicki with a much quicker and direct train service with which to visit her friends!”
A conductor walked up to Randomman44 and asked to see his ticket. However, as he had snuck under the ticket barriers, he obviously hadn’t bought one, but he knew exactly how to handle the situation.
“I am Buff Salmon, the Supreme Overlord! I think you’ll find that I do not need a ticket to travel!”
The conductor was clearly intimidated by the power of Buff Salmon, and agreed that he doesn’t need a ticket.
“The fact is, for many people railways were inaccessible because the tickets were too expensive. The Labour Party has long campaigned for affordable rail fares, and last term the Labour Transport Secretary finally brought affordable fares by implementing a 25% fare reduction as part of the government’s cost of living package. This has meant that people no longer need to fork out ridiculous sums for travel, and has helped make rail travel affordable!
Thank you all for watching, and remember, to like and subscribe! Oh, and vote for the Labour Party on Thursday for a railway network which is affordable, accessible and extensive!”
The video was uploaded to YouTube, where it garnered 4 million views.
