Towards a New Future
In a few days' time, every adult in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has the opportunity to cast their vote, to try and make their mark on the country. Casting our vote is a huge privilege of living in a democracy such as the United Kingdom, something that we should always remember.
Every election you are given a choice, a choice between continuation or change, just like this one. During the last six months we have seen two Governments, with two core parties: Coalition! and the Liberal Democrats, added with either the Conservatives or Labour. I was proud to have served in both Governments, first as Justice Secretary and then as International Trade Secretary, I'm more proud of the latter position.
Labour has fought for the common people over the last term, making sure that there's a vast package in place to combat the cost of living crisis, combat the energy crisis, take action regarding the situation in Ukraine, and much more. I'm proud to have delivered a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement with the United States, making sure that the people and businesses of the United Kingdom become wealthier and better off.
We will continue this fight, we will do everything to make sure that the common people of the United Kingdom are better off than before. We want to make sure that people have a vote on whether or not they want to rejoin the single market of the European Union, something we left but now should reconsider. We want to continue our fight for more free trade agreements and increased trade with countries all over the world. Through improved connections with our Commonwealth partners, we will boost our economy and improve chances for everyone in the UK.
Rejoining the single market and getting more trade deals can benefit the people of Wales in so many ways, from more job opportunities to increased sales for businesses. These opportunities can level up Wales and the rest of our United Kingdom.
One of our main goals is to make sure that workers' rights are better protected and big companies that are attacking workers' and union rights are punished more than they are now. It cannot be that companies mistreat workers and their rights and get away with it, therefore we will increase taxes on the businesses that keep on doing such things.
We will continue to combat the cost of living crisis, through several means. We will continue the package that we put in place and we will make sure that we continue with our efforts to be less reliant on fossil fuels. Through investing in greener energy alternatives and upgrading our homes we can save a lot of money on energy bills.
Labour will continue to fight for the people of the United Kingdom and the people of Wales.
