Post Body

ARichTeaBiscuit continued her campaign by speaking to a small crowd about issues ranging from the environment to public transport,

"Hello there,

If you've seen a nature documentary or glimpsed at some of the coverage of natural disasters over the past few years then you'll know that our planet is arguably seeing the first signs of the damage that will be inflicted us on all by climate change, of course, such news can be quite depressing and I know a fair few people that have fallen into a rather doomerist mindset about the future of our planet, however, if you look around you then you'll also be able to see the efforts that people are taking to ensure that Northern Ireland does its part in reducing our climate footprint.

In the past, the Executive in Northern Ireland has worked to create new standards for clean air and we've supported the rollout of electric cars through new charging points, and more recently we have also taken control of our railway network! It is through the latter reform that future Executives can more effectively pass measures that will make railway journeys cheaper for the people so that even more of us can afford to ditch the car and take public transport into work which in itself will reduce emissions and clean up our air.

It is safe to say that thanks to Sinn Féin that Northern Ireland is undergoing the largest expansion in our railway network for generations, as our railway network is set to double and be greatly improved ensuring that Northern Ireland has one of the most modern railway networks in the whole of Europe, a fact which should instill a sense of pride amongst all communities, of course, we have not completed our journey and shouldn't rest on our laurels! Sinn Féin will continue to push for the development of our transport network, with measures such as the full electrification of the Belfast-Dublin line which shall ensure that people can travel between the North and the Republic with ease.

Of course, it would be meaningless to fight against emissions without restoring our natural environment and attempting to reverse some of the damage that we've already inflicted upon the planet, which is why Sinn Féin are dedicated not only to planting millions of more trees by the end of the decade but we want to pump 10 million pounds into a fund that will restore our peatland as this is a part of our environment that actively stores carbon so is quite useful in the fight to protect our communities against climate change!

If you have listened to me speak on the environment before then you'll now that I like to relate this subject to healthcare, as the cleanliness of the air we breathe and the water we drink has an obvious impact on our long-term health, now, I am quite proud of the work that Sinn Féin has done in the Executive to not only clean up our air but also improve our healthcare system.

Sinn Féin has led efforts to invest in our Health and Social Care system, through our efforts we've increased staffing numbers, expanded and modernised existing healthcare facilities and focused efforts to improve care for cancer which was previously lagging behind which has resulted in real benefits for communities across Northern Ireland.

It would be rather foolish for us to accept this record of success and do nothing to build upon this record, as we understand that rural communities still suffer from historic underinvestment in public services and the number of GICs is still insufficient for Northern Ireland. Sinn Féin would fix that issue by ensuring that every council area in Northern Ireland has a GIC clinic and we'll also continue to expand healthcare access into rural areas.

It can be quite daunting to look at the challenges ahead of us on massive issues like the environment and healthcare, however, Sinn Féin have a comprehensive series of policies to work on directly addressing these issues from comprehensive investment in our public services to ensuring that Northern Ireland has one of the best public transport systems in Europe, so for a better Northern Ireland go out and vote Sinn Féin on polling day, thank you"
