PoliticoBailey had taken a trip on the campaign trail down to London to campaign for the Liberal Democrats. He decided to go and give a speech to supporters in Greenwich to support the re-election of Liberal Democrat Leader /u/Rea-wakey.
“Hello London! It’s great to be here today as I come to support Rea-wakey in his campaign to be re-elected as the Member of Parliament for South East London. Now, this campaign has made me think of a few questions. What does it take to show leadership? What does it take to be an effective representative? What does it take to stand up for policies that are right? What does it take to win the votes of the British people?
To show leadership - you need to have a clearly defined set of principles, you need to have a vision, you need to talk with people, not at them - and listen. Wakey does that.
To effectively represent a community - you need to understand the people, the place, the issues and the solutions. Wakey does that.
To have a strong set of policies - you need to have clear ideas, you need to think of others, and you need to deliver. Wakey does that.
And what does it take to win the votes of the British people? Well, you need to present them with an agenda of ideas and policies that they can trust, believe, and be inspired by. Wakey and the Liberal Democrats are doing that at this election.
I’ve served with Rea-wakey in the Liberal Democrat executive for six months as his Chief Whip, and with other executives too. In that time I have seen the leadership, dedication, perseverance and decency that Rea-wakey has approached his politics both as Leader of the Liberal Democrats, and Member of Parliament for South East London. That is why, I am here to campaign for him today.
On to policy, the Liberal Democrats have a manifesto at this election of hope, and one that the people of South East London and the wider country can believe in. Whether it’s on Home Affairs with policies on tackling crime among young people and making our communities safer with drug spiking testing. Whether it’s on Health and Social Care, with reform to the operation of the National Health Service with federalisation. Whether it’s on the environment, with a Climate Change Adaptation Fund. On Defence, with 2.5% GDP Defence Spending and supporting personnel.
The Liberal Democrats are the party with a credible plan for government based on the principles of decency, liberalism, respect and aspiration. It is the Liberal Democrats that can deliver this plan, and that starts with re-electing Rea-wakey as your Member of Parliament on the 25th February. After all, we’ve only just begun. Thank you.”
There was a round of applause as PoliticoBailey concluded his speech with a group of supporters, and from thereon he would continue his journey on the Liberal Democrat campaign trail.
