#GEVXI [Gloucestershire and Wiltshire] Slater ends his campaign as the Country Ground, Swindon
Author Summary
Post Body

Slater arrives at the County Ground

It’s a pleasure to be here today, at the home of the Swindon Town Football Club for 135 years, and still going strong. Sport is a great connector in our communities, and can bridge racial, sexual, socio-economic barriers, uniting us behind a common cause. Watching and playing sports can provide us an outlet to escape the stress of our daily lives and come together as one, and build happier, healthy, more interconnected communities. It can form part of our identity. This isn’t to mention the individual health benefits that sport can have on our bodies. I’m an avid runner, and there’s nothing that reduces my stress and allows me to concentrate more than a good run.

However, sport can also divide us. The behaviour demonstrated after the unfortunate defeat to Italy in the Euros final was shockingly despicable. Swindon has had it’s fair share of hooliganism and controversies as well. I’m sure everyone remembers the 2006 win over the Rovers, with chairs used as missiles, baseball bats, racist chanting and arrests being made.Solidarity has a strong track record when it comes to sport. We’ve defended the Football Reform Act, and aided efforts to stop the Super League. Putting clubs into the fan’s hands gives the people, not rich executives more say over the directions and decisions of the club. It’s important we have a grassroots approach, as we should with society. As the workers form the structure, and keep our economy going, it’s the fans who support the club, through the tough times and the good times, and they deserve to have a real say. Solidarity wants to support amateur sports clubs, and ones in need of growth and development, such as the Swindon Town Women’s FC. We will do this through promoting media internet, and providing governmental funding to develop outreach and ensure anyone who has an interest can participate.

Anyway, that's enough rambling, let’s play!

Slater plays football. Some kids decide to join in and have a kick around. Safe to say that Slater was thoroughly outplayed. (as an australian it hurt to write football and not soccer)

Panting heavily, Slater attempts to get his breath back to speak.
That was fun! I forgot to tell you that Solidarity will promote extra credit for students doing sports, and that’s a promise. It’s time to get our kids out, active and healthy again. It’s time for Solidarity!!!

Later that day, Slater decides he should end his campaign with the release of a couple posters, and calls back Ella from the previous campaign event he had, who gives him some advice on his posters, and with a final click, Slater’s campaign for Gloucestershire and Wiltshire was over.
