Maroiogog speaks outside shepperton town hall about his plans for flood defences in the area.
Hello everyone and thank you for being here today. I am very glad to be here again running to be your member of parliament in the election tomorrow. It has been a blast going around Surrey once more meeting with the public and putting forward my message as always.
As many of you may be aware we at Turning Point Surrey were successfull in getting a vital upgrade to our railway lines here in Surrey in the form of the electrification of the North Downs line. It is now time to focus on a new project and a new objective for our efforts.
We want Surrey to be the best place to live in, one where you can feel safe and focus your energies on what you want to accomplish in life with nothing standing in your way. A place with opportunities and all-round good quality of life. We know that unfortunately that dream was shattered for many in this area when in 2014 the Thames burst its banks and flooded entire neighbourhoods. We cannot allow for such a tragedy to repeat itself.
This is why today we are launching a new campaign for the Government to focus its efforts on developing and improving flood defences along the course of the Thames. With the climate crisis making extreme weather events on ever growing threat it is our duty to ensure that all communities in Surrey are adeguately defended from them going into the future.
Local councils have already drawn up plans for such defences, Government just needs to step in and guarantee the adequate funding and a cohesive plans to span across multiple counties, we cannot act alone. Over the next parliamentaty term I will be seeking to build a cross party support for a package of measures in the same way I have successfully done for our railways.
I still have a lot of plans for Surrey and a lot of things I want to see done for our county and I still feel like my presence in Parliament could help a lot. Looking at what other parties have given us for the election tomorrow I only see candidates that have been parachuted in, that have never before this week acknowledged the existance of Surrey and that have barely been seen around hanging a few posters here and there.
If you want an MP that cares for you and has already proven to be willing to put the work in to make your community a better place, vote for me tomorrow, thank you.
