Slater sits in the Awale Internet Cafe, in Swindon, Wiltshire, enjoying a snack while drafting up a poster for the campaign, nearly ready to be released online.
A lady peers over at his laptop and inquires about what he's doing
Slater: "Oh hey! I'm model-slater, and I'm the local election candidate for this area. Trying to finish this poster here. I did ran last time but unfortunately I was unsuccessful, though I'm hoping I can take the seat this time. I wouldn't mind a second opinion, what are your thoughts?"
Lady: "Yeah sure."
She takes a glance
Lady: "Yeah that looks alright actually. I've never voted Solidarity, always thought they were too radical, preferred a vote for Labour, but on second thoughts those policies don't sound bad at all, would you like to give a bit of an elaboration? I'm Ella by the way."
Slater: "Lovely to meet you Ella, and I'm more than happy to! Firstly, Solidarity are proud to crack down on the crime that is costing us, and that's white collar crime. As you've read, it costs us far more than petty crime, and according to the Home Office’s National Fraud Authority, a study conducted in 2012 stated that Fraud costs the UK economy £73 billion a year. That's £73 billion that should be going to schools, to healthcare, to our future, but the rich and the greedy have continually tried to manipulate, exploit and blatantly avoid paying their fair share of tax, and we won't stand for it. We will ensure that corporations, and the rich are held accountable and contribute to society. Our working people put in hours and hours of hard work for minimum pay, and then pay their tax, while our rich gain at the expense of others and refuse to use their wealth for good. I'm fed up, and it's time this came to an end."
Ella: "£73 billion?? Wow. That's atrocious. "
Slater: "I couldn't agree more."
Ella: "What stood out to me was the policy on renter's rights. I'm a renter myself, and time and time again I've been targeted by Landlords for asking to fix basic things. I've had a broken dishwasher for years, but I'm afraid if I speak up as I have previously, I'll be evicted, and I can't afford anywhere else."
Slater: "That's horrible to hear about your situation. I've been a renter for most of my life too. No fault evictions serve no other purpose then being able to offer a loophole for piggish, greed hungry landlords who wish to evade their duties or prioritise money above their tenants' well-being. Solidarity, and myself believe that tenants like yourself should be guaranteed the right to certainty and reliability in their housing, everyone should. You should be able to more easily arrange your lives and raise your families. I know as a child, jumping from house to house wasn't great for my education and growing up, it's really important for children to have that stability. For tenants to be at risk of eviction for trying to reach an agreement on a proposed rent increase, or simply because an agency or landlord dislikes them is disgusting. Tenants who attempt to assert their rights may be evicted without cause. It can't last it any longer. I will fight and we will deliver for you and millions of others."
Ella: "Yes yes yes. I couldn't agree more, and I'd love to talk more, because I have some concerns about other policy, but I've just realised I've gotta head over to an appointment, but thanks so much, I'll be following your campaign, good luck!"
Slater: "No worries, See you and good luck too!"
Slater sends the poster off, released across the internet!!!!
