Author Summary
BestinBounds is in Somerset and Bristol
Post Body

BestInBounds stands at a podium by the pier in Weston-super-mare. At his final rally a massive crowd has gathered in Weston, Labour banners are hanging from the stage and the crowd is a motley of different shades of pink and red. The crowd starts to quieten when BestInBounds begins to speak.

Weston-super-mare! How good is it good to end the campaign with some sun by the beach! While I’ll be the first to admit hearing me speak isn’t the same as being able to swim, I thank you all for listening to me all the same with such enthusiasm. It’s been a long campaign, but in the process we have covered so much ground, brought the message all round Somerset and Bristol, and laid the foundation for something that has the potential to be quite special! None of this could have been done without your help, and on behalf of the Labour party I thank you all for giving everything you have and aiding me on this fantastic journey we have undertaken together. An added bonus is this will be the last time you have to hear me speak haha, but in seriousness the time you have donated is something I cannot repay and I am so very grateful to have the backing of you all! But I have to cover some more bases before I say goodbye, policies that I haven’t covered yet, so let’s get to it, let’s finish this job we started.

Labour will fight for a healthier Britain for us all. A key part of this is the National health Service, which plays a crucial role in keeping our citizens healthy regardless of their ability to pay. We have always believed that this function is absolutely critical and we will continue to provide the proper funding so that the NHS can continue to serve Britons and keep them healthy. Vaping products will require plain packaging in the same way that is required of cigarettes, in conjunction with this we’ll place age restrictions on vaping products to protect our youth from the consequences of vaping which they may not fully understand yet. Vaping is a contentious issue and Labour will continue to follow best practice and the advice of medical professionals in order to keep Britain safe, and maintain an educated platform on the topic. Such laws will align vaping regulations much closer with cigarettes and manage an industry with thus far lackluster oversight. We’ll also introduce a bill that mandates there be one gender transition clinic in every population centre with over 250,000 people to slash the wait times for those who wish to transition, and prevent them from being backlogged on long shortlists and waiting an excessive amount of time to undergo their surgeries. We’ll make sure the NHS returns to its original scope by making prescriptions free and by making the NHS cover opticians testing and prescription lenses for all, so that all those who require eye care receive what they need, when they need it and in a speedy fashion. Dentistry is another key area we seek to reform, moreso providing free annual NHS dental health checkups in order to promote excellent dental hygiene, which is a key, albeit often overlooked factor in maintaining a long and healthy life. Mental Health is another key issue we have identified to work on, we have committed to a review of the Mental Health Act so that people’s peoples independence is respected whilst still prioritising the role of early identification and action for those who need such services. Aged care, preventing elder abuse is another core part of our health platform, and we’ll seek out those who abuse their role as caretakers and promote good faith in the industry and restore confidence in our eldercare system.

Let’s now move on to education, Labour prides itself on affording all Britons a quality education and that commitment will never change. We want to offer every Child a quality education in classrooms that are conducive to a good learning environment rather than overcrowded classes for overworked teachers. So our first commitment in this sector is reducing all class sizes to 25 so that every child gets the attention they need, and so our teachers don’t have to worry about controlling large classes when the focus should be on the delivery of content. We’ll support school meals and expand the programme to include milk, and act on the recommendations of the food security report in line with current research that suggests free meals generate higher school attendance. We’ll create a student support voucher scheme which will provide free vouchers for students below the poverty line to purchase textbooks and other essentials at lower rates that allows them to receive a good education and better future opportunities. We’ll support university students and those who seek a university education. We'll replace maintenance loans with grants and decrease the costs of university tuition for UK, EU and international students to recommended levels as well as committing to increasing the budget of the Open University, enabling greater access to education. Lastly we’ll serve the needs of those in vocational training to build the reputation and quality of skills for those in the vocational training pipeline, aligning the minimum wage for apprentices with the regular minimum wage and increase funding to FE and sixth-form colleges to reverse the real term funding cuts they have received.

Moreover, Labour will continue to back our workers. In regards to welfare we’ll enact the following changes. The Labour Party will endeavour to reintroduce the previous system of welfare of a basic pension and other social security benefits, and scrap the system of negative income tax. Which will allow people to have equal opportunity with regards to government payments which is far more valuable to the UK, especially if we can add on additional payments for possible financial or economic crises, or so that we can specifically target certain groups to assist. We’ll require additional oversight to ensure the department for work and pensions is accurate and operating on a good faith basis. Scandals both at home and abroad have revealed the need for a strong and resolute framework for welfare that is fair and accurate, because the system must be right. It is simply too crucial to leave room for error.

When it comes to infrastructure we won’t hide from our obligations either, and Labour’s plan is a core component of our view towards a new era. We’ll create legislation that allows councils to create and run more local bus lines, which in small towns had recently been crippled years of privatization and fill the gaps left by privatization and return transport to the community! Nationwide we are focusing on increasing railr rollout, and increasing freight rail to take trucks and cars off the road in favour of trains transporting goods. Rail growth is linked with greater economic expansion, and we can reverse some of the cuts in order to increase greater mobility and connectivity between our regions. We want to make it easier to purchase electric cars and ease the fears traditionally associated with such purchases, doubling the number of fast charging stations available, making it easier for electric cars to refuel. We also want to maintain our connections with the world, expanding Heathrow and Gatwick so that London stays as a major aviation hub and keeps competitors like Dubai at arms length, lowering fares and offering greater choices to consumers. For big projects we’ll undergo greater consultation with local councils so that we take into account the views of the community before we start such big projects.

And that leaves us now at the end, where you all must decide where we go from here. The future is in your hands. With your help, we can lead Britain to a better future together, we have done so much good work, but there is more to do and all we need is your backing to see this through and get back to work, and usher in a new era. I will fight for everyone in Bristol and Somerset, regardless of political affiliation because this place deserves just that, an active, representative who ill hold parliament to account and i would be just that with your help. A vote for Labour, a vote for BestInBounds is a vote for a better future for everyone. Regardless of income, race, socio-economic status. Together we can build a better Britain.

Thank You all so, so much,

Malo Lava,

BestInBounds.
