#WJR2020 [Mid and West Wales] thatthinginthecorner asks the people of Wales: do you want more bureaucracy or more funding for public services?

Post Body

The Earl of Oxford and Asquith (formerly the Lord Aberystwyth) makes a rare public appearance to campaign against the devolution of justice and policing.

Speaking on the steps of Aberystwyth Library, the Earl makes his case against the creation of another level of bureaucracy.

"I am standing on these steps of Aberystwyth's beautiful public library to highlight how important public services like these are to the people of Aberystwyth as well as the whole of Wales and the rest of the United Kingdom.

The creation of an additional layer of bureaucracy in the area of justice and policing would cost Welsh taxpayers an extra £175 million. This has been confirmed by the Welsh Government themselves. As a result, if this unnecessary process of devolution goes ahead, the Welsh Government would have to make a difficult choice of raising taxes or cutting public spending.

For the Welsh people, this could mean a £200 hike in taxes for ALL Welsh taxpayers or a cut to vital public services like this library. First Minister Salami has refused to rule out a rise in taxes.

What we all need to think about is what is this going to achieve? Do you want your taxes to go to funding TWO more career politicians, who will be on very comfortable salaries? Do you want yet more bureaucracy?

Therefore I urge the people of Wales to vote to support our: - NHS - Police officers - Schools - Libraries

Let's not create more unnecessary levels of bureaucracy and establishment career politicians.

Thank you Diolch"
