With sporadic applause sir cthulhuiscool2 approached a Justice for Wales branded podium before clearing his throat and speaking to a gathering of party volunteers and members of the national press.
“Today I can announce the Libertarian Party Cymru will be supporting the Justice for Wales campaign and we will be working towards the devolution of justice and policing to Wales. During the previous weeks and months we have balanced the arguments for and against. However we now believe the arguments in support of devolution are overwhelming. From delivering true accountability and a tailor made criminal justice system to gaining the tools to fix a broken system it is clear Wales stands to gain from the aims of the Justice for Wales campaign.”
“We concur with the The Commission on Justice in Wales that we have been ‘let down by the system in its current state’. It is complicated, it is complex and it is disjointed. The Justice for Wales campaign represents the libertarian values of accountability and transparent government - where the electors have greater oversight of the elected and the institutions which claim to serve the people. From a Welsh perspective the Senedd Cymru is more representative than the House of Commons by a factor of twenty and it is obvious to all that the criminal justice system will be more accountable once within the remit of the Welsh Government.”
“We also believe the diversity of ideology of Justice for Wales is of great value and we are proud to serve as a unionist voice within it. In contrast the Wales Says No campaign appears to be led by the Conservative Party and Conservative Ministers - the very people who stand to lose influence if our campaign is a success. Whether this raises a question to the validity of the Wales Says No campaign... I will let the people of Wales decide. And few have had any meaningful involvement in Welsh politics in recent memory. It is a campaign being organised from the corridors of Whitehall.”
“But whatever the formulation of the campaign it is the argument it makes that will lead to failure. For while Wales Says No parrots the same lie over and over we will be sure to bring a libertarian perspective to this campaign and present the array of arguments in favour of devolution across Wales. That is why I am inviting every libertarian to join this campaign and deliver justice for Wales. Thank you.”
