nstano speaks before the Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce:
Good Afternoon! It is good to come before you again to campaign for your vote. You all know that the LPUK is committed to ensuring that the business climate in this country remains as open as possible and that the burden of taxes on business and individuals is as low as it can be. My aim, as you well know, is to ensure that you are focused as little on Westminster as you can be so that you can focus on bringing prosperity to Humberside.
This campaign season, the issue of taxation has been a big topic for me. The proposed tax increases in the Clegg budget must not go into effect, we believe that these would be an unnecessary burden on the taxpayer. Of course, it’s very easy to campaign against a tax increase; that’s the sort of pandering we are all used to hearing. The LPUK stands for real, substantive change and that is what we are proposing. We see this election as an opportunity to reform our tax system in a way that will ensure the government has the resources it needs without blowing a hole into your pocketbooks. The tax system can and should promote economic growth, not be an obstacle against it. Our manifesto outlines four simple tax brackets that will help to make paying taxes as simple a proposition as possible. We also wish to cut the VAT to 15%, as this tax is a drag on our economy that makes the goods and services we all buy more expensive. I think you are all aware of how we feel about sin taxes, and how they disproportionately burden those of low incomes, but more than that any government that wants to tax your pints to the point where there’s more tax than beer isn’t one worth supporting in my book! The bottom line is that taxpayers will save at least £500 a year under our plan, and I know that £500 per taxpayer would go a long way to boosting the economy here in Humberside.
What concerns me as well is the plans I am seeing out of some of my opponents. I read in the Sun that they estimated the Labour manifesto will cost £700 billion or more. The only way we are going to be able to afford that is tax and debt increases, pure and simple. That’s a burden both now and later on all of us. I say vote LPUK for growth today and growth tomorrow!
