ARichTeaBiscuit concluded her campaign by returning to the city of Dumbarton to address a new crowd of speakers, with the final event also being broadcast in locations in Stirling and a few other locations that the Labour Leader had visited during the campaign on top of being streamed on popular online platforms.
“Hello there,
It has been an utter pleasure to travel across Stirlingshire and Upper Strathclyde over the past few days and speak to the local people, as I say I believe it is incredibly important for politicians to speak to the citizens that they wish to represent and engage with the concerns that they share about the present situation and the future, and I have been inspired by the enthusiastic energy that you’ve showcased to me.
Over the course of the past few days I have been speaking about the importance of establishing a well-funded and supported education, as I believe that one of the most important things for ensuring the success of Scotland is by maintaining an excellent education system to give future generations the foundation to succeed and meet their full potential, and I am particularly proud to have worked together with my friends in the Scottish Labour Party to develop an education platform that does just that.
I have spoken to concerned parents across the country that have told me that they are worried about the quality of education that is being delivered to their child, and as a parent that is a concern that hits me deep. It is why Scotland needs a government that is prepared to take action to reduce classroom sizes in primary and secondary education and to increase the numbers of Teachers Assistants available, so that students especially those that are struggling with the curriculum can receive additional support to reach their potential, and I can assure everyone watching here today that I will focus on improving our education system.
In the past few days I have also once again been reminded of the damage that was inflicted upon Scotland’s railways by the infamous Beeching cuts, a disastrous policy that becomes even more senseless when one considers now that the one of the easiest solutions to tackling the threat of climate change is to increase the number of people using public transportation. It is of the utmost importance that a future Scottish Government work to re-open lines that were closed by these regressive cuts and open up access to the railway to the tens of thousands of people that have been cut off from the railways for far too long, and that is a policy that only a government led by the Scottish Labour Party can be trusted to deliver.
It should also go without saying that we in the Scottish Labour Party are incredibly proud of the work we put in to establish our National Health Service, and we are all dedicated to ensure that it receives the resources that it needs to meet the challenges of the 21st century, on top of that we understand the importance of ensuring that hospitals and clinics around the country have reasonable staffing level, as when our medical facilities don’t have adequate staffing levels that causes undue stress and exhaustion on our amazing healthcare workers, and such a combination means that the care that they give out to patients can suffer.
I am proud that the Scottish Labour Party recognise that the current situation in regards to staffing levels is unacceptable, both to our healthcare workers and to the members of the public that they look after and as a member of the Scottish Labour Party I will work with my colleagues to ensure that our NHS gets the staffing levels that it requires to reverse this situation.
In the past few days I have also spoken to people that are quite concerned about the aggressive and negative attitude being utilised by the First Minister and by extension the Scottish Conservative Party during this campaign, with a member of the public earlier saying to me that they believed that the First Minister was obsessed with the Scottish Green Party and the 2014 referendum campaign, and well I can’t argue with that as a large portion of their campaign seems to be dedicated to a political party that no longer exists.
I am of the opinion that Scotland deserves a government that is willing to deliver real progressive change for everyone regardless of what side they voted for in the independence referendum, and while the Scottish Conservative Party are keen to attack those that support independence it is the Scottish Labour Party that is willing to work for the benefit of those that support independence and those that believe we are better as part of the United Kingdom.
In order to achieve that goal, however, we need as many people as possible to head to the ballot box and vote to send a strong delegation of Scottish Labour Party to the Scottish Labour Party, as Scotland deserves a First Minister that is able to move on from 2014, Scotland deserves Youmaton, thank you.”
