Leader of the Scottish Labour Party /u/Youmaton has held a large rally in Aberdeen to wrap up their campaign of supporting /u/jgm0228 for Holyrood. Whilst the crowd to begin with is large in numbers, it continues to grow as the speech continues on
“HELLLLOOOOOOO ABERDEEN!”
The crowd cheers
“I'm honoured to be welcomed back to this amazing city by so many of you, and in such incredible circumstances which have come to us lately. Last election we put forward a manifesto of hope, one to put divides behind us and work together to create a better Scotland, and look at our movement now! Against all odds, against all thoughts, we are now the official opposition to the Duncs11 government, and we are absolutely a force that can get the momentum needed to finally oust this government and their ideological crusade!”
The crowd cheers once again
“Coming into parliament for the first time, one thing that always struck me was the constitutional conservatism from the then newly elected government, a desire to push Scotland into a rigid framework of bureaucracy and status-quo, a detest for pushing boundaries where they should be pushed. Throughout our journey to this point, the government has lectured us about what we can not do, about what Scotland should not aim for because of rules they don't want to properly utilise. Just recently, we have seen this government launch another attack on Scotland and it's ambition, by announcing an end to all external affairs measures, under the failed excuse of the devolution settlement. The devolution settlement clearly outlined its intentions, where Scotland can move forward it's ambition and its plans, and the constitutional conservatism moved forward by this government fails to properly recognise and utilise what potential we have as a nation. Whilst the First Minister degrades Scotland, and talks down to the nation as if it's a small child, Scottish Labour says no more!”
The crowd cheers with increased energy
“The behaviour put forward by the First Minister and his government as of late is nothing but shocking and appalling, and a note that should shine throughout the nation that their time to leave Bute House has come. Over the past few weeks alone, we have seen this government push a scare campaign against Scottish Labour's ambitious plan, adopted from the SNP, to raise the age of criminal responsibility from the internationally denounced age of 8 as it currently stands. Whilst healthy debate has been moved forward as to where this should be set between 14 and 16, the government has decided to abandon civilness and courtesy by launching an all out fear campaign against a MACR that is already used widely internationally. To quote general comments of the UNHCHR -,” the Committee had considered 12 years as the absolute minimum age. However, the Committee finds that this age indication is still low. States parties are encouraged to increase their minimum age to at least 14 years of age.” The world is calling for the policy ambition that Scottish Labour moves forward, and yet this government is so stuck in the past that they wish to withdraw from our international obligations and hide from the world. Together this by-election we can say no more!
The crowd begins to shout “No more! No more!
“Finally, we come to the blantant lies that Scottish Labour do not know if the United Kingdom should exist as a nation or not, the blatant fabrication that we have no policy. The First Minister seems to be listening to our movement less then he does our international allies, as we have made our Other position very clear over the past year. For those who don't know, I will repeat it once again. The United Kingdom remains as a legal default, the status-quo that serves as what will remain if change is not approved by voters. A referendum on Scottish independence has to meet one or both of the following criteria, being that a legally defined political generation has passed, or that a significant political shift has occurred that the nation has not given its consent to. Despite the fear-mongering, despite the lies and slander that the people of Scotland can easily see through, we have a clear and concise policy in this area, and we are not afraid to say that we wish to unify the nation under this banner. Unionists, nationalists, other and those who don't mind, let's end this tensions that Duncs wishes to continue to push, let's come together under a pragmatic policy, and let's create a Scotland we can believe in!”
“Last year, noone thought what we have achieved would be possible. Everyone wrote Scottish Labour off as a dead old party, and now look at our movement. Together, we can change history. Together, we can deliver a government for change. Together, we can continue to work with our international partners. Together, we can reject the fear-mongering of Duncs11 and oust him from Bute House. This can be done with the momentum from the byelection, the hope given throughout the nation of true change, together we can end this government and bring forward ideas not ideologies. Please, join me in supporting and voting for /u/jgm0228 this byelection, and together we can say no more to this government!”
