Post Body

Out in Dagenham, model-amn has set up a small booth in the street, where voters can ask her a question. In front of her is a sign that says “Ask me anything- WEP candidate for East London”. The first person is a young child, accompanied by her mother.

“What does WEP stand for?” she asks.

“Oh. Well, the WEP stands for ensuring that...”

model-amn then realises she wasn’t asking about policy.

“It stands for Women’s Equality Party.”

“Oh, that’s pretty cool! What are you doing out here?”

“Well, you know how there’s an election coming up?”

“Yeah, my mum told me about it.”

“Well, I’m standing for Parliament because I want to help make laws to make society a better place for women.”

“What laws do you want to make?”

“Well, one thing I’d like to do is make sure that childcare- like, kindergarten, nurseries- is free, so working mums don’t have to quit their job.”

“But I like spending time with Mum.”

“Yeah, sweetie, but I also need to work to make money to buy things for you,” responds the girl’s mum.

“Alright then, that seems like a pretty good law. Thank you!” says the girl.

The girl and her mother leave. A young man then approaches.

“So, you’re running for Parliament, right?”

“Yeah.”

“Tell me what you want to do for the working man.”

“Well, obviously I stand for all working people, not just men, but I’ll tell you my thoughts on enshrining workers’ rights. We need to ensure that the laws that stop discrimination against part-time workers are enforced, end zero-hour contracts for care workers, ensure that the rights of pregnant workers are protected, and work towards equal pay.”

The person thinks about what model-amn has said, then nods. He asks for a brochure, and then leaves. After him, an older woman approaches the stall.

“Oh, just my luck! I’ve heard about you, saw the poster about your turnout in the Lords. I was thinking of voting for you, but I’d just like to know your thoughts on healthcare.”

“Well, I think it’s important we ensure that we have better health for disabled people, but also, we need to ensure that reproductive health care is available for all women, and improve mental health care to combat the mental health crisis we have now.”

“That sounds grand. I think I’ll vote for you.”

The old woman leaves, and model-amn continues answering voters’ questions.
