“My name is model-amn, and I want to be your local MP. I have a history of serving East London. Around this time last year, you elected me to serve as your MP, albeit under a different banner, that of the Greens. Since then, I have had the privilege to serve as a member of the House of Lords as Baroness Woodford.
That is a peerage that, naturally, I will renounce if elected as your local MP, but I have a history of working within government for the people of this beautiful part of Britain. And now, I’m back, as a member of the Women’s Equality Party?
So, what is the Women’s Equality Party? Well, we do what we say on the tin, I suppose. Fight for the equality of women to achieve a better society. Our manifesto might be brief, but it is dedicated to achieving gender equality.
We here in the United Kingdom, we pride ourselves on being a forward thinking, tolerant society. But the fact is, women are not truly free. We have an opportunity to lead the world in gender equality for women. Now, I’m 1 woman. I can’t necessarily achieve that.
But if you elect a Women’s Equality MP, you will be sending a message that you support equality, that you support an end to sexism, that you support an end to misogyny, and that you’ve voted WEP to have someone up in Westminister dedicated to protecting women’s rights.
Should you vote for me just because I’m a woman? Of course not. Do I think that the Women’s Equality Party represents the views of all women? No! But I believe that if you want a voice in Parliament, standing up against sexism, fighting for women’s rights, fighting for gender equality, then you should vote for me to be the MP for East London.
Because, ultimately, you have an opportunity. The people of East London have a very unique opportunity, and that is, they have an opportunity to elect a politician running on the platform of women’s equality, of gender equality, on an equal society. A politician who isn’t necessarily bound by the traditional definitions of left and right.
A Women’s Equality Party politician will be in parliament to advance the feminist cause, to advance the women’s rights movement, to advance gender equality. And that’s why I think you should vote for me.”
