ARichTeaBiscuit continued her election campaign in Northern Ireland by giving another speech at Derry, with the Labour Deputy Leader speaking about LPNI's education policies.
"Hello there,
It is a pleasure to be here in Derry today talking to the people of Northern Ireland about the Labour Party of Northern Ireland's positive vision for the future, and I am thankful to every one of you attending today's event for making the effort to listen to what I have to say.
I am here today to speak with you about the LPNI's plan for the Northern Irish educational system, but I will be open to questions on other issues raised in the LPNI manifesto.
It is a sad state of affairs that our universities in lack adequate placements for all of those that wish to engage in the next tier of their educational journey, as a result of that lack of capacity around thirty per cent of our young people travel to Britain each year to study where fees are higher and as a result they incur more debt, with a total of two thirds of those who leave never return. LPNI wish to reverse this rather dire brain drain, and we will pressure a future Northern Irish executive to fund increased student places in Northern Ireland and reduce the portion of the tuition fees paid by students. We also recognise that higher education isn't for everyone, and so we will promote additional investments in apprenticeships.
In the Labour Party of Northern Ireland we also understand the importance of ensuring that our young generation possess skills that put them on an advantage on the global stage, and that means encouraging as many of our young people complete third level education and further training as possible, and placing increased focus on STEM-focused careers, an extremely valued field in the modern global economy.
We also appreciate the importance that the pre-school and nursery school years play in a child's development and their entrance into the primary education system. It is why the LPNI are dedicated to ensuring that the proper level of resources are allocated to improving pre-primary educational infrastructure.
Lastly, the LPNI will seek to pressure a future Northern Irish executive to investigate a set of reforms designed to bring an end, to the manner of segregation within our schools. The LPNI is a neutral party and we believe that a classroom in which children of all faiths and backgrounds are educated equally with the same teachers and the same resources, is an environment that is good for Northern Ireland.
The LPNI is committed to improving Northern Ireland's educational system, so remember for a strong Northern Irish educational system vote LPNI, thank you."
