/u/bloodycontrary arrived in Salisbury today to admire the cathedral's 123 metre spire- uh, and also to deliver a campaign speech on a subject related to that potentially risky reference:
It really is a beautiful cathedral here, and a beautiful city, indeed. Although I'm from the border of these great counties, I always found time to visit Salisbury and the plain in general, and it's always great to be back.
A horrible incident - well, two incidents - occurred here not long ago, and I'm sure most of you have not forgotten. I certainly haven't. It was nefarious and cowardly, and put the whole county on edge.
This is something we have to take very seriously. And now that the Tories have successfully steered us out of the EU - despite all experts and statistics saying it was a very bad idea - we may end up vulnerable indeed.
So the Liberal Democrats have a plan. Firstly, we need to increase police numbers and funding. Not just so there are more officers out there doing normal police work, but also so there are more officers working in counter-terrorism and cyber crime.
Secondly we will also fight to ensure we remain part of intelligence sharing with our European neighbours. This is something absolutely essential in today's World, and we absolutely must not throw it away. It was these close links that meant the UK and her allies could make a robust response to Russia's shithousery.
Apologies for swearing, but there's no other word for it.
Salisbury is a beautiful city in a beautiful county in a beautiful constituency, and I'd like it to be protected as best we can. The Liberal Democrats have a plan for that.
Thank you, and remember to vote Lib Dem on Saturday!
