Estoban06 has spent the last 8 hours speaking with Troubles support and survivor groups. He emerges, visibly fatigued and walks to a press conference desk that has been set up in the venue lobby
'' It has been a great privilege to spend the last few hours in the company of some of the most inspiring people I have ever met. I have heard the most passionate, and emotive accounts of life before, during and after the Troubles.
All tonight has done is reinforce my belief, that there can not, ever, be a return to the Troubles of times gone by. It is our duty as a nation and as a people to make sure the same mistakes and decisions are never ever made again.
We must educate our youth. To them, the Troubles are consigned to the history books, a fact we should all be hugely proud of. But however, education is key, to reinforcing these ideals.
I must admit I shed a tear or two at the story of the children who's mother died in the Omagh Bombings, and the wife of a man who was murdered by the Shankill Butchers. The thought that such horrific atrocities occurred on home soil as recently as 20 years ago is overwhelming.
At Alliance, we strongly support maintaining the investigations and prosecutions for Troubles murders, of course unless dealt with by the Good Friday Agreement. We need to make sure survivors from all sides have closure and can set their minds at ease.
We also support an improved history syllabus, which will increase knowledge of the Troubles and make sure the past is never repeated, something which should be paramount to all people of Northern Ireland.''
Thanks, and see you in Derry for the final rally!
