Orange38: Hey there, how're you doing?
Reporter: Good thanks, it's nice to meet you. I just wanted to have a word with you about your campaign. As you know, tomorrow is the final day so I wanted to hear how you think it's gone so far, and whether you've done enough.
O: It's good to meet you too! Well, it's been a very intense campaign with stiff competition. I have a lot of respect for my opponent, she's worked very hard and clearly cares about the community. I'm hopeful, however, that my campaign has done enough to secure a victory. Of course, we can't know and the polls are very tight so it could really go either way. We'll see soon, of course. It's a very difficult situation to comment on at the moment, without more detailed polling.
R: Yes, I completely understand. Moving on, how would you respond do accusations that you're a 'parachute candidate'?
O: I entirely understand the concerns of those who worry I might be a 'parachute candidate', as you put it. I'd like to reassure those people now that this is not the case and they have nothing to worry about. I've lived in West London for many years and I care deeply about it, which is why I want to see the local councils reformed and more power devolved to the regional assembly. Whatever the best intentions of any MP, it's very difficult to deliver improvements for you constituency from Westminster. Westminster is, naturally, very focused on national and international politics, to the inevitable exclusion of local and regional politics. It's a bit of a Catch-22 situation: to shift focus away from the national and towards the local you have to get involved in the national. But, once this has been achieved, I very much hope to coordinate relations between West London boroughs and Westminster.
R: Very good. Now, we've heard a lot about the Conservative-Liberal Democrat rivalry in West London, but very little about the Green Party. Is there anything about that on which you'd like to comment?
O: Absolutely! I have deep respect for the Greens, and actually find myself in agreement with them on a number of issues. However, the Greens are a very small party and their presence in this election in West London has been very minimal. I would like to hope that those considering voting Green would instead vote for me and my party. I am a committed environmentalist, and environmental reform will be one of my priorities if elected to Parliament. This means I can carry out the 'Green agenda', as it were, whereas a vote for the Greens will unfortunately be a wasted vote.
R: Would you like to add anything in regards to the Labour Party?
O: Most certainly! The Labour Party doesn't have a presence in this election in West London, and so I would also ask that Labour voters consider voting for me. The Labour Party has really betrayed its voters by going into a coalition with the Conservatives, and I don't think the Labour Party can be trusted to not do so again. Even if they refuse another coalition, I think we've seen enough to know that they'd only refuse on the grounds of political self-interest rather than out of any principles stance against Conservatism. Some might fear that I'm too economically liberal, that I'm too right-wing. However, I would consider myself one of the leftmost members of my party. That means I can provide the left-wing and working-class representation that many Labour (and, indeed, Green) voters seek.
R: Thank you for your time, it's getting late so I won't pester you any longer.
O: It's been a pleasure. Have a good night!
