Hi, I'm Orange38 (also known as Orage38). I'm sure you've already seen posters and leaflets from my campaign but, in case not, I am the Liberal Democrat candidate for the election in West London. I wanted to speak with you directly to explain my background and why I believe I offer the best future for West London.
It's no secret that I was not born in West London. My opponent, Charlotte_Star, would like you to believe that my being born elsewhere means I'm not a proper West Londoner, that I don't get about West London, that I'm a 'parachute' candidate. This could not be further from the truth.
West London is a place I have chosen to live for many years, because I love West London for many the same reason West Londoners love it: it's open, accepting, tolerant, and outward-looking. Unfortunately my opponent insists on attacking me on the basis of which hospital I was born in, something which I'm sure the 55% of Brent residents who were born overseas would find as disappointing as I do.
When the election was announced, and the opportunity arose for me to run for election in West London, I could not have been happier. I ultimately believe that West London is a liberal place, and a liberal place deserves a liberal representative. The Conservatives have taken this constituency for granted up until now, but I don't think they truly represent it any longer. In the Single Market referendum, for example, West London voted to remain in the Single Market by a higher margin than any other constituency in the entire south of England (including London, the South-East, the South-West, and the East of England). The Conservatives would have us ripped out of the Single Market, yet they claim to be the best representatives for West London.
If I'm given the honour of representing West London I will not fail to work in the interests of West London. That will include working to reform local councils, strengthen the London Assembly, set up a regional development bank, promote the construction of HS2 in this constituency, work towards unprecedented environmental action, and do my utmost to prevent a disastrous Brexit.
This is because I understand that West London is a good, decent community which accepts newcomers looking for a better life, and not because I believe in the outdated concept that one's home is determined by the location chosen (or often not even chosen) by one's parents to give birth. Because of this I can represent all West Londoners, and not just those who were born in West London.
