"One of the holes in our animal welfare legislation that remains unfilled is the legality of circus animals. Across the world, other countries have made legislative changes to restrict animals from being exploited for entertainment, because protecting animals from that kind of dangerous circus work- and other kinds of entertainment- is important."

"It's not just the 'performance' that is harmful to wild and exotic animals, but also the lengthy journeys on the road in the tightest of quarters. No wild animal is supposed to live like that, nor is it normal for an animal to be forced to travel up and down the country to put on a show for the benefit of some wealthy proprietor."

"I am already working on legislation to prohibit and restrict the abuses of animals through travelling entertainment work. It's time the United Kingdom followed the suit of many other countries, even those in the commonwealth, who have taken the more than justified stand against the exploitation of wild and exotic animals solely for some people to profit from these animals being towed around the country to perform for a misguided audience."
