OKELEUK does an Interview with Meridian Radio, talks about NHS, Brexit
John: Hello, im John from Meridian Radio, i am here with OKELEUK, Labour candidate for Southeast London, glad to have you on the show.
OKELEUK: Hello, im glad to be able to be interviewed by such a community radio, providing for Patients and Staff alike.
John: Yes, now OKELEUK, you are not unfamiliar around here, you have run in several campaigns in the past in this constituency, and when this constituency was still part of greater south london. Yet these have been under vastly different parties than Labour. Why are you now running for labour in the general election?
OKELEUK: Look John, when i was running as MP for this constituency six months ago, the situation was radically different than it was today. Labour has, in my opinion, become the only party which can truly lead the country in a new direction. The only party which can fix structural issues brought on by the tories, such as problems on workers rights, brexit, the NHS, and many other things. It is why i have chosen for this party, and i am honoured that i have been selected by the South East London CLP to stand for election here this year.
John: We broadcast, as you know, in a NHS hospital. Now, NHS funding is low, and recently, the hospital has been strapped for cash. What will you do to support the NHS?
OKELEUK: Labour is committed to boost NHS funding by 20 Billion if its elected into government. I will then proceed to fight to make sure that the NHS in South East London will also get sufficient funding. That is my short and simple answer.
John: And with Brexit, what will you do about the crisis in nursing and doctors we will get when we lose access to nurses and doctors from across the world?
OKELEUK: Well John, we have a explicit manifesto commitment to recruit doctors where we lack them from all around the world. to make sure that the best and brightest are incentivised to come and contribute to the National Health Service, and John, we will make sure that NHS understaffing, with this commitment and our other commitments, come to an end. I can promise that if we have elected a labour government, in which you can participate by electing me for south east london.
John: You talk a lot about Labour, but how will you as MP stand up for your constituents, even if they may vote for you despite not liking your party?
OKELEUK: Well John with the system currently in place, constituents will see that i stand on a manifesto, but also on a proven record myself. This manifesto outlines my ideas and policies that i will hope to (co) implement next parliament. Yet, i also represent my constituents outside of that, in my time in parliament, i have introduced motions to protect mental health facilities in south london and to promote local energy initiatives. If people want to vote for me because of my plans, then they should, if people want to vote for me because of my record, then they should, and if people want to vote for me because of my belief system, then they should. But i am, and will be completely transparent about what i do.
John: Okay OKELEUK, thank you for your time on this interview.
OKELEUK: thank you too
John: I was john from Meridian radio, broadcast to you live.
