Cornwall My Home, Onen Hag Oll, and now Glorious Devon, this campaign had been like no other in Cornwall and Devon - it is certain that the other parties had been looking on at this campaign with awe, aghast at the following that the Conservative Party Candidate Sephronar had been amassing. Compared to previous elections, which to his credit he had worked to bring about change in different ways, this one was unique.
It had been a brutal campaign, in more ways than one. Politics is always a dirty business, but this election felt different - perhaps because the Conservative and Unionist Party were on the cusp of doing something truly astounding, potentially winning the most seats in Parliament, or perhaps because of their terrible characters anyway, but the opposition parties were getting truly desperate now.
Sephronar sat at the foot of a grand old oak tree on the Devon side of the Tamar valley, having led the rally across the Tamar Bridge yesterday it was clear to him just how much support was building up for him across the constituency. With the gulls cawing in the sky above him, the fishing boats moving out towards the British Channel, and the sun beaming down on him, he took a moment to ponder what was happening in this election, and exactly why that might be.
The Conservative Party had taken this election by storm, hitting every single constituency with a gusto not seen for quite some years now, under Sephronarâs leadership. They have been out campaigning in constituencies, visiting one another to spread the good news, and they have been hitting the debates hard - the regional debates, manifesto debates, and Sephronar himself has been spending a considerable amount of time ensuring that the Conservative message is properly represented in the Leadership Debate as well. Quite frankly, no one had expected the absolute earthquake that they have been causing in this election, no one expected the grassroots support to be so overwhelming, and still no one expects the absolutely astonishing result which is seeming very likely indeed at this point.
While the opposition are spending their time ranting in the press about how other candidates are âF****** Losersâ, or turning away investment in Cornwall and Devon and relocating it to Scotland instead of the under-represented South West, the Conservative and Unionist Party are spending their time focusing on what really matters. Representation, hard work, determination, and spreading a message of hope and progress across the whole United Kingdom. Our election slogan and manifesto title is not âKeep Moving Forwardâ for no reason - no, we decided on that slogan for a very good reason indeed.
Over the last six months, we have been a party of a truly unique and special Government - the Grand Coalition. Thanks to the hard work of the Labour Party, alongside our own efforts, we have begun on an important journey to reform the United Kingdom for the good of everyone who lives here. We have collectively passed thirty three new laws, four Statutory Instruments, and delivered eighteen new Statements - as well as an absolutely fantastic budget which has delivered change and prosperity for the whole United Kingdom. Do you know how many laws the previous Solidarity-led Government passed last term? Seventeen! What a joke, last term the Conservatives passed ten laws separate from the Government, despite fierce opposition in Parliament from the left wing.
What all this shows is that Solidarityâs inadequacies are not just a matter of being sat outside of Government, only passing seven laws this term - but a systematic lack of both ability and ambition, a skill issue if you like - which is transcends the term, and shows what a tired party they are. Their turnout in the House of Commons being eighty percent this term says it all really, while ours was a nice round one hundred percent.
What does this all mean for Cornwall and Devon? Well, that pattern of inadequacy is not just limited to their governing or oppositional skills - it also carries down all the way through their party to their MPs as well. Cornwall and Devon have been stuck with a Solidarity MP now for five terms - five stagnant terms for Cornwall and Devon, where they have lacked proper representation from their Members of Parliament. Solidarity has done nothing, not a single thing, for Cornwall and Devon that they can name - they have delivered no progress, no home, no vision, they have not done a single thing for the people of Cornwall and Devon in all their time here.
Since re-entering politics, Sephronar has worked tirelessly to represent the people of Cornwall and Devon - his home - despite not even being their Member of Parliament. He has done this because he cares about this constituency, and desperately wants to see it succeed. But for all his efforts, the fact that they are lacking proper representation from their Member of Parliament means that there is only so much that he can do. But all that can change at this election, and with the support of the Labour Party who recognise that Sephronar is the right candidate for the job here, that is looking very likely indeed at this election.
This election, Sephronar had been central to it all - building and writing the partyâs manifesto, helping other candidates with advice on their own campaigns, and of course delivering a bigger campaign than ever before for himself too. Hopefully this all has shown just what hard work and determination can do, as well as sticking to something that you believe in - because you believe that it is the right thing to do as well.
The partyâs manifesto, our plan to ensure that we âKeep Moving Forwardâ boasts a number of groundbreaking promises which are unlike anything that the country has ever seen before. And for Cornwall and Devon, these promises are particularly encouraging as well. They will usher in a new era of progress for the United Kingdom if actions, deliver security and allow us to defend ourselves like never before, and will help us to seize control of the domestic agenda to end the various crises that we find ourselves in the midst of.
Take, for example, our promise to increase our investment in the military will see British become a proper global force once again for good - if we support our military properly, we can make sure that foreign threats are seen off by deterring them with our superior might, but also allow us to protect our interests at home as well. We can support our international allies in the challenges they face, and support international peacekeeping bodies such as the United Nations with global peacekeeping efforts - something that we should be wholly committed to do. We want to invest in our military sector, not because we foresee conflict with other nations ourselves, but to prepare ourselves and to be ready for it if it comes - and in the meantime, to use our forces for good and protect those around the world who need defending; and that includes nations like Ukraine too, of course.
That is of course very relevant here in Plymouth, where HMNB Devonport calls out to the world as a sign of Britainâs military might - proclaiming loudly and proudly the echoes of âRule Britannia, Britannia Rules the Wavesâ, once more for everyone to hear.
Plymouth also beckons out as a centre of business in the Cornwall and Devon constituency as well - just look at the famous âDrake Circusâ, where I have held a campaign event in the past, filled with bustling shops and businesses which are calling out for some attention from a decent Member of Parliament, and more progress from their Government. We have already reduced Corporation Tax to 20% to start with, but more than that we invested ÂŁ52 Billion into a new British Investment Bank for Small and Medium Enterprises like these - worth far more than a tax cut to them, this investment allows businesses to apply for new interest-free loans which will unlock their true potential.
But we want to go further than that now, which is why in our manifesto we are making a number of key pledges to invest in and support our vital businesses. Firstly we are promising to ensure that taxation which applies to businesses such as these is kept competitive on a global scale - and remain OECD competitive so that they can go forth and prosper. This investment is on top of our promise to cut red tape for businesses, cut down on the ridiculous form-filling and paper-pushing so that our businesses will spend less time form-filling and more time doing what they do best; selling! There is no need for the state to determine every single aspect of our lives - we need to roll back the clock on government interference, and get back to a place where the government trusts business to do what is best for the people of the country.
And in that same vein, we are wanting to roll back the clock on another government overreach - that is the ridiculous amount of state interference across the board; the dire amount of nationalisations which we now find ourselves a victim to today. Nationalised Rail, Nationalised Buses, Nationalised Mail, Nationalised Pubs, Nationalised Food, Nationalised Energy, Nationalised Water - all of these will be put to a stop if you elect the Conservative and Unionist Party candidates in your constituency, if you elect us to form a majority Government and make history. Why on earth is the state owning pubs, owning food production, owning water companies? There is no need for that, and it just leaves the people of the United Kingdom at the behest of a Government which is obsessed with taking more and more agency away from you. It really is time to put an end to all that - I for one also opposed having a nationalised television broadcaster too, which is a slippery slope toward government-mandated state propaganda. If this all doesnât seem Orwellian to you too, then you are likely a victim to the Solidarity Partyâs own propaganda - and it is time for a change!
It is finally time for change, and you can be a part of that change today. By voting for me in Cornwall and Devon you are saying to the Solidarity Party Leadership that you have had enough of their inadequacies. You are saying to them that you want change, that you want progress, and you are saying âno moreâ to their faces.
The people of the United Kingdom, the people of Cornwall and Devon, finally want freedom - and if you elect the Conservative and Unionist Party to lead you, if you elect me to be your public servant in Cornwall and Devon, you can finally have that freedom. I do not just want to give that to you, I am desperate too, and with your support we can make that happen, finally.
This is my sixth election in a row running to be the Member of Parliament for the people of Cornwall and Devon - I have lost five times, but I am hopeful that this time things will be different, and it will show everyone what the power of perseverance is, what you can do if you keep trying again and again and never give if, if you get back up after being knocked down - that is just one aspect of what you are voting for here this week.
Above all though, you are voting for a strong party, a strong leader, with a strong plan for our communities - ready to give you the local representation that you deserve. Just look at my track record; The Isles of Scilly link, the Holiday Let Licensing Act, work to address local issues such as tourist helicopters, the Cornwall Act, the High Speed Four rail link - all of these things, and more, show my dedication to this area. There is literally no one more qualified than Sephronar to be your local Member of Parliament; the only unknown now is simple - will you make that choice, to choose freedom, to choose hope, to choose progress. To choose all of this over opposition for oppositionâs sake, for nothing other than blatant ideology.
We have genuine hope in this election that properly decent local candidates like me, who care about their area and who want to make a difference and give back, will be given the chance to prove themselves and succeed for the good of us all.
If that is what you want to see, then look no further - vote for Sephronar and for the Conservative and Unionist Party, and you will be given it.
