model-willem steps up to the little podium that has been made for his campaign start speech in Wrexham. People are standing with an invitation in hand displaying the centre of Wrexham front and centre.
“Thank you for coming out here today to listen to me, probably because you didn’t have anything better to do today than to listen to some politician trying to win over your vote. For the people who do not know who I am, my name is Willem, and I am currently the Justice Secretary, and I am the Conservative candidate for this wonderful constituency. I have been Member of the Senedd for this area of Wales for a while and I can safely say that in my opinion this is the most beautiful place in the entire United Kingdom.
I am standing here today as a member of the Conservative Party, a party that will always do its best to make the United Kingdom a better place than it has been before, and we want to do this through giving people freedom to make their own choices as much as possible. This means that we want to give you the best possible options and that starts with creating an economy that thrives for everyone right now, but also makes sure that it does that in the future. I am proud that we have delivered the Chancellor of the Exchequer during the last term and that he has presented a tough budget that invests in the future.
I do understand that the rise in VAT has been a hard one for people, but unfortunately it has been necessary. We understand that it has been a hard thing to hear, so that’s why we want to commit to not raise VAT any further than it has been raised right now, in combination with steadying National Insurance and Income Taxes. These three fiscal decisions mean that we want to focus on making lives easier financially for people, while we still have the opportunity to invest in the future. We also want to create a Long-Term Economic Plan, to ensure that our economy is more stable in the future and that our economy can withstand fluctuations better than it can right now.
One of my personal favourite policy areas is home affairs, as former Home Secretary I am always interested in making sure that we focus on the best possible police services and that we focus on humane immigration. While police policies have been devolved to the Senedd, immigration isn’t and it’s something that we should do something about sooner than later. During the last term we have had multiple discussions on the way that we should handle immigration and have been in talks with France to see how we can work together better on this subject than we have done so before.
During past Governments we have ensured that France would take in every immigrant that crossed the Channel illegally, but we have seen a rise in crossings either way and we must ensure that there are legal routes for people to get to the UK if they deserve to and work with the European Union and countries in North Africa to make the crossing of the Mediterranean Sea unnecessary for these people. By doing so we can also take the wind out of the sails of human traffickers, who commit horrendous crimes and put people’s lives in danger to earn some money.
We also want to help people with businesses, as the party that takes businesses seriously, we want to ensure that we cut rules and bureaucracy whenever necessary. We have seen that a lot of unnecessary rules can decrease effectiveness for businesses and can cut their revenues. With smaller revenues businesses can invest less money into their production and into their services, which means that less employees are necessary, and less money can go to those employees. So, cutting bureaucracy means that businesses can thrive more and therefore the people that work in those businesses can thrive more as well.
We also believe in greener energy productions and want to invest in nuclear energy as one of those options to make our country greener and less dependent on countries such as Russia. We understand that the production of nuclear power plants takes time and money and that it isn’t going to solve our problems right away, but we must think long-term as well when it comes to energy production. I want to ensure that Wales can play its rightful part in this as well as the rest of the United Kingdom, because we can only achieve greatness together. We must put cooperation before separation.”
The people present gave Willem a big applause and lots of people went to take a picture with him.
