Cathedral Yard in Exeter has been the host to thousands of events over the centuries, from ecclesiastical to secular. This time however it is a political rally for Solidarity, the campaign closing event for the Prime Minister. Yet again not much of a surprise, though it has been over a year since similar crowds of avid leftists gathered here, when previous Prime Minister /u/KarlYonedaStan would have his rallies. His face and name are visible on many of the signs waved throughout the rally, trying to poke in front of the many cameras that have come to listen to the current Prime Minister speak. While rudimentary repairs have taken place, the Royal Clarence Hotel still stands out among the meticulously maintained plaza. Despite years of promises and attempts it still remains closed. Accompanied by a local councilor and constable, the Prime Minister tours the hotel, including what burned parts are safe to traverse. Afterwards he climbs the stage to speak, waving to the crowd and cameras.

“Glad so many of you could make it here, and that more than just Solidarity voters seem to be here to hear me out. Since this is something that the leader of the Conservatives keeps repeating, the idea that me being the Prime Minister means I would be unable to help the people of my constituency.

Now I don’t know about you, but when the Prime Minister shows up in person to find out why a problem hasn’t been resolved, after years of waiting and corporate garbage, a solution tends to be found. And I will promise the people of Exeter now that I want to see this beautiful building once again in use. But I want to see it used for enriching this community, not just pandering to tourists. People live here, they work here, why should the picturesque views of this plaza be reserved exclusively for the rich?

Since let’s go over what the famously efficient private market has managed to fix this. Now thankfully the original owner had fire insurance, so they got their payout. However, they decided it was not in their best interest to restore it after a couple years doing nothing. Then it gets purchased up in 2019 by a firm who wanted to turn it into luxury short term rentals. I’m sure everyone here would love some more Airbnb profits right? Of course not! But don’t worry, they didn’t do what they promised either, and a few years later this place got bought up by a new developer. Developer is a bit generous as they’ve not done much but fixed the paint. They want to make it a hotel again they claim, yet haven’t done anything substantial still. This is why I will promise now that if elected I will have this purchased converted into social housing.

I’ve had just about enough of this I don’t know about y’all. These money grubbing landlords, who see beautiful buildings and vital land as nothing more than just another line in a spreadsheet, have wreaked havoc all across Britain. That’s why I have been so proud to work with Solidarity and my government to begin to finally confront this menace. This menace has been with us since the time of William the Conqueror. It has always been a method of foreign domination of the working people of Britain. At first more literal, land given out to William’s cronies, but this same power dynamic continues. The Tudors and periods after carrying out Enclosure was only the natural progression of dominating the power landscape of Britain.

To some this idea will seem absurd, we have a parliament, there aren’t even any inherited peers anymore in the House of Lords. But still I can tell you from our universal land survey that the aristocracy own about 30% of all land in England and Wales at this moment! There are literally thousands of barons and other nobles who still own vast estate, I wonder how many are owned by the Tory candidate himself! No wonder he wants to abolish inheritance tax entirely, lets him and all his posh friends save millions and millions of pounds that my government could be using to build new homes and lower the prices they’re able to extort out of you! Well we’ve already laid the groundwork alongside the Labour party to start taking on landlord abuse, but, with our Renters Rights Bill and Town and Country Planning Bill, Solidarity is making the whole system of land and property one that is built around the working class.

If a landlord is charging you insane prices, or tries to jack your price up 20% out of nowhere? Solidarity wants you to be able to challenge them to the Land Commissions directly. If their legally binding market evaluation proves the landlord is overcharging you, you should get your price set back to what is reasonable. And you should get back pay too! More than that, Solidarity wants to turn the long shambolic ‘Right to Buy’ into something that is actually accessible to everyday people. We’ll be doing this by making sure renters gain half the equity of the property for as long as they live there, and by guaranteeing their right to buy out the property at any time.

Because ‘Right to Buy’ and all the buzz of propaganda and mistruth about it since it was started are the epitome of my opponents in the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats. They will tell you they care. They will tell you they are gonna cut your taxes. They will tell you they are going to eliminate waste. Then you are going to find when the bills come in at the end of the month, they’ve skyrocketed, and those basic income payments that you could always rely on to help you get by? Those are cut to scraps if anything at all. They’d rather spend money on nukes that will never be used or bribing their landlord and industrialist friends to keep them happy. We certainly know the Liberal Democrats aren’t above such corruption, my opponent Phonexia in this constituency is the only one to even address the Duke of Abercorn’s impropriety! Yet even she gave a half hearted ‘apology’ which came with no discipline at all for the Duke. This echoes the events earlier this term where my Conservative opponent here, Sephronar, ‘apologised’ on behalf of the Tories for the incendiary and racist remarks of one of his members, which the House passed a motion to condemn. No discipline was taken on that individual either and he’s currently running for MP in Clydeside against my Party Chair Zakian.

This should tell you how much you can trust them to stick to any supposed ideals they have. They only care as long as it is convenient for them, they are unwilling to do the hard work confronting flaws internally, even if it would result in a better party for it. Solidarity is unafraid to do that, and it is why we are the leading political force in Britain, and why we want to keep fighting for that better Britain we envision and have laid out to you in our campaign. I want to keep fighting, Exeter, vote for Solidarity to help us do that together.”
