Despite the typically low traffic in Truro, the Prime Minister’s campaign rally attracts an expectedly disproportionate amount of attention and attendance. While many had assumed the location was outside the Royal Cornwall Hospital, it seems that it is in fact adjacent to it. The groomed hedges of the Truro Golf Club, strangely taking up massive space in the middle of the small city, loom behind the rally. Members of the audience can also see what appears to be a small school in the middle of the course, almost an island among the links. The Prime Minister takes some time talking to a few locals before taking the stage to address the assembled crowd.

“Well, I know some of you parked a bit away from where you should, but I promise I’m not leaving the hospital out of my remarks either. But really, I have a lot I’d like to talk to you about. I also want to just take a moment and say how that view right there sums up my opponent from the Tories in a single snapshot.”

He’s clearly referring to the school amid the golf course, and continues.

“Now that school you see out there used to be a private prep school. Literally an island in the city with idyllic greens surrounding it and no chance of interacting with any of those dirty working class people. Thankfully previous governments and my own have taken on these deeply flawed schools, institutions that reinforce centuries of dominance of working people be would be aristocrats. Yet again, the same old stuffy aristocrat, this time with a slightly fancier title, is trying to tell you sweet little lies to get himself into power. Oh he’ll give you some compromises, you’ll get the devolution, just as you will from Solidarity. But what he will do with the rest of that power should make the hairs on your neck stand up. How many of you have actually read the Tory manifesto, by chance? It is quite a revealing document, I have to say. It reveals just how deeply out of touch with reality that party is, rendering many of their promises nothing but vague gestures towards supposed ideals.

It says on its cover that it is a plan for tomorrow, but it reads more like a plan for more than a year ago, if not decades further back for its regressive tendencies. For out of touch points, their lavishing of praise on their promise to freeze council tax stands out, when council tax has not existed for three budgets now! They also promise to abolish the prescription charges we abolished in this last budget, as if we needed further proof they have never ready anything at all. They want to cut welfare to such an extent that at least three out of four Brits will see significant cuts. They’ll do this while promising they’re helping you grow! The Liberals Democrats went one step further, where they could be bothered to actually publish their economic policy, and said they would help you by cutting LVT drastically. Then you’ve got the Tories promising to completely abolish Inheritance Tax, does the Duke have no shame at all? Perhaps he can answer me honestly one day, but so often when I do speak to him, I cannot trust any of it.

Take his supposed crusade against the troubles an overfocus on tourism and holiday homes bring to Cornwall, everyone here has seen one of his posters about it. Now how many of those houses do you think are going to come onto the market to people who need them when they’re paying a fraction of the taxes they are now? This is nothing but the landlords themselves struggling to keep their stranglehold, but Solidarity won’t allow that. We will take their money for the common good, and we will keep pushing further to solve the housing crisis. The golf course itself serves as a perfect example. Don’t get me wrong, I like golf. I have fond memories of my grandfather teaching me and taking me along with him as a child. I haven’t kept it up as a habit, but I do appreciate the experience and skill of it.

That being said, why is it right here? There is a bounty of beautiful land all throughout Cornwall, and golf is a full day endeavour as it is. What difficulty is a small drive or bus to a bit out of the city? The air will be even cleaner and it’ll be a more true change of surroundings. Golf courses can only hold so many people, something like a thousandth as many as a park of the same size. The reason is obvious, if you’ve ever played on a course where you’re stuck behind a slow group. You can’t share a hole with another group, and if someone else is playing further up a hole its unsafe to drive from the tee.

Its a low density sport, and that’s exactly the pleasure many find in it. This same land could house thousands of people, and many businesses and utilities besides. I want to see Solidarity begin a programme to either help willing relocation of courses, or force the hands of those who won’t budge. This is a problem everywhere, London has 131 golf courses within city limits! We have to be a Britain that supports the common welfare, and does not let this artificially landscaped and maintained facade of a green and pleasant land deceive us. We need to build a real one, one where the land is owned by and used in the best interest of the people. It reminds me of a Cree proverb:

‘Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.’

This is why Solidarity has laid out our plan in our manifesto clearly. We will reform planning law, we will build houses and reservoirs and railways and schools and hospitals and everything else needed to build that Britain that we know is possible. A Britain that works for all, that accepts all, and where there is no such thing as a have not. We will bring water and power and fossil fuels fully into public ownership, and we will finally stop the production of the very poison that is destroying our planet. We will build a green future because it is possible, it is necessary, and it is quite frankly cheaper for Britain that letting these companies continue to exploit us. We are getting so close to finally breaking the entrenched power of capital in this nation, and that is why you see supposed liberals begin to turn hard to the right. They want to stop us because they know their crimes will finally be over, they will have no more chances to plunder the working folk of Britain. They will have to accept that! Accept and build the equal and prosperous future for all that the rest of us want, because it is the right damn thing to do! So many of you claim to be Christians and make your prayers and gestures, and I have to wonder what God you’re praying to. It sure isn’t the God who threw out the moneylenders and said to give all your wealth to the poor.

Folks, the other parties are out of touch with you, whether it be from urban elitism or aristocratic privilege or ivory tower academia. Solidarity has stood by farmers, fishers, and every other worker in Britain and any who come from beyond. And we will keep doing that if you vote for me this election.”
