As groups of journalists, civil servants, and policy analysts sit in the crowd, jotting their pens and typing up summaries and analysts in their laptops, one of the Policy Exchange's Senior Fellows announces the arrival of the Unity figures, with the audience lightly clapping as party leader Youmaton and candidate Mikiboss walk steadily onto then stage and pose for a few photos, before both standing at lecterns to address the crowd

"Thank you very much for the warm welcome. As you can imagine, jettisoning across Yorkshire is thrilling, but it can be exhausting in the midst of an election, so I do appreciate the downtime here" says mikiboss

“Thank you all for attending today, and thank you Mikiboss for your welcome. Whilst we have seen politicians racing around the country, causing more carbon emissions than a mid-tier influencer, I am excited to go through our vision for a better life in these isles.” states Youma

"But on to Unity. We've all been in British Politics for quite a while now, and we've seen debates, bills, legislation, and rows over just about everything you could imagine. While we have seen some thoroughly progressive and successful reforms over the years, the sheer amount of partisanship and ideological dogma that has clouded almost every debate or attempt at change has become so restrictive. Our strength as a nation is incumbent on being nimble, modest, and pursuing good governance, rather than just being ideological warriors. " says mikiboss.

“Just looking over the past month alone, since Unity formed, we have witnessed debates on common sense issues be turned into a needless partisan fight. For an example here, we need only to go to our recent plain packaging legislation. This legislation would bring our plain packaging laws up to an international standard, and expand its utilisation to include non-health related nicotine and cannabis products. Simple, common sense, and effective, and yet immediately we saw partisanship rolling in. NATO is another highlight, long standing policy, which is meant to have bipartisan support in continued protection of our nation, yet we witnessed those so caught up in ideology that common sense precluded itself from their thoughts. The United Kingdom does not want extremism, be that from the left or the right, across the country there are cries for a new way forward, a vision ready to deliver” says Youma

"What we needed was a new approach, one which really looks at issues based on their merits, and puts a premium not on issues that advance the issues of decades old dogma, but advance the interest of good governance. And that's where Unity comes in." says Mikiboss

"We here in Unity don't seek revolution, but evolution. We don't want to destroy the world to build a new one, but to improve the one we've got."

“Politics is but a vehicle that should bring our nation together, recognising what unites us, not what divides us. Where we have a government that has a quote in its own manifesto about running others down in the middle of the road, we want to offer hope and pragmatism. Pragmatism does not hide one's true feeling, but ensures the feelings and beliefs of others are included as well, how democracy is meant to operate, instead of ideologues pushing taxation up further and further. What we have now in British politics is simply not sustainable, it is not what the people of the United Kingdom believe in, and through Unity we hope to bring back the country we all recognise.” says Youma

"Since this is the Policy Exchange, let's talk about some things that have been forgotten for far too long, Policies! When it comes to economic issues and fiscal reform, Unity is willing to tackle the long term issues of reform with a long term interest in the public good, rather than just focusing on easy wins that kick the can down the road. We aren't looking to nationalise industries without returns to productivity, which won't see economic growth for the poorest Britons, and we aren't looking for tax cuts without offsetting the expenses. Rather we've committed to modest increases in taxes through things like tobacco consumption and other negative social mores, and using increased revenue to lower the tax burden on citizens by default, ensuring that people get a better deal by default. We'll also look toward long term and expansive economic growth by locking in visa and migration reform to ensure visas are more accessible, are more reliable, and can be accessed quicker, making it easier to move here, work here, and contribute to society here.” says Mikiboss

"On just another area of our policy reform, we are committed to a look towards our defence priorities and commitments in a way that really ensures the best interests of Britain aren't just advanced, but are secure. We are committed towards increasing investment in Defence overtime towards 3%, and to ensure that spending isn't lost to rent seeking, we'll finalise a proper defence review, ensuring we can afford a pay rise for soldiers to keep our volunteer army as attractive and viable as possible."

“Our safety, our national security, and the future of our nation, relies on the ability of our nation to properly defend ourselves. No-one wants to imagine a scenario where our defence is actively utilised, but any party that considers itself to be serious must realise its duty to prepare for these scenarios. As part of our defence framework, the United Kingdom operates a nuclear deterrent, a method used to prevent any nuclear attacks against this nation, a bipartisan measure that has been in existence with support from both sides of politics since the Thatcher administration. With our deterrent now beginning to age, plans must continue to be enacted to preserve the security of our nation, and integrate a new series of Dreadnought Class submarines before our current Trident fleet is decommissioned. Our safety should not be controversial, and yet we have witnessed the government openly oppose this problem, openly opposing the continuation of the deterrent that has kept our country safe for decades. Unity is ready to return common sense back to this debate, and put our safety back as the priority.” says Youma

"These are just a few of the kinds of really common sense things we need to talk about, and we won't stop after the election, we'll pursue these relentlessly."
