Help with choosing weapon

Ive never played a monster hunter game before and was wondering what weapons are fun/good. right now ive looked over the list and im thinking either the hammer or horn as i love knocking things out. i dont know which one is better or if there are other more enjoyable weapons. any advice is appreciated
