Oak Processionary Motion

This house recognises that;

• the Oak Processionary (Thaumetopoea processionea) is a dangerous and invasive pest that can cause pharyngitis and asphyxiation.

• the Oak Processionary spread from continental Europe to London via the import of oak trees, and in just 14 years they have spread from a single instance to the entirety of Greater London and beyond.

• It is important that the Oak Processionary does not spread to Northern Ireland.

This house urges the executive to;

• Ensure that, for the purpose of pest control, checks are conducted on all oak trees imported from England, Central Europe, and Western Europe to ensure that they do not contain Oak Processionary or Oak Processionary larvae.
