Motion to Rename Northern Ireland
This House Recognises:
(1) The most Northerly point of mainland Ireland is Banba's Crown (the tip of Malin Head), Inishowen Peninsula, County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland.
(2) Including Islands, the most Northerly point of Ireland is Tor Beg rock northeast of Inishtrahull, County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland.
(3)The most Easterly point of Ireland is Burr Point, Ards Peninsula, County Down in Northern Ireland.
(4) Including Islands, the most Easterly point of Ireland is Cannon Rock, County Down in Northern Ireland.
(5) Northern Ireland is more East of the Republic of Ireland than it is North.
This House Therefore Resolves that:
(1) Northern Ireland should be renamed to "Eastern Ireland"
(2) It consents to the necessary changes be made in Westminster to change the name of Northern Ireland to Eastern Ireland.
This Motion was written by The Rt Hon Marquess of Stevenage, u/Muffin5136, KT KP KD KCMG KBE CVO CT PC on behalf of the Potato Raving Loony Party
Comhairle,
It is a simple fact that the Northernmost part of Northern Ireland is more Southernly of the Republic of Ireland, therefore it is a factual inaccuracy to call Northern Ireland, Northern. Instead it should be called Eastern Ireland, due to the Easternmost point of the landmass that is Ireland, being found in Northern Ireland rather than the Republic.
I hope this chamber can back this simple name change.
