SpectacularSalad, Model-Avery and Archism were present tonight at a small press podium. A handful of bored journalists had attended the late night conference under the promise of witnessing the launch of a new political party.

SpectacularSalad gave the following statement:

“I am today announcing an agreement between the Independent Group, Volt Europa and the Northern Irish Independence Party to form a new electoral party, the Social Liberal Party, in alliance with the Northern Irish party.

Our three groupings are already united by a common set of values, a belief of decency in politics and an attitude of public service, and it is for that reason that we have decided to come together as a single electoral force.

The Social Liberal Party is to be one founded in the tradition of Social Liberalism. This is an ideology that espouses a harmonious relationship between individuals and society, with individual liberties and prosperity being promoted by a government keen to actively intervene to improve the lives of individuals within the United Kingdom, understanding that poverty or a want of resources and opportunity are an anathema to individual liberties and choice.

We believe in a society of empowered individuals acting freely in their own interests, with the state ensuring a level playing field, and a fair distribution of wealth at the individual, regional and national level. These are the principles on which our party is founded.

In Wales, Volt Cymru will continue to operate in the Senedd as our branch within Wales’ democratically elected Parliament. Archism will continue to lead Volt Cymru as a core part of our family of parties, with the support of the rest of the Social Liberal family.

In Northern Ireland, the Social Liberal Party is in alliance with the Northern Irish Party. This is a new rebranding of the Northern Irish Independence Party committed to making the relationship with the rest of the United Kingdom work better for Northern Ireland, while forging a unique and distinctly Northern Irish cultural identity.

The Social Liberal family as a whole will reinvigorate an area of politics often criticised for being bland and technocratic. We will provide the ideological punch to put real liberal politics back on the agenda in this country, and we are very much looking forward to the upcoming general election, which will be extremely exciting for our parties.”
